Am I weird for cutting my steak and chicken with a folder?

Make it "to go". :D I got an email about some club considering a smoking ban. This is a place where there is a lot of drinking and socializing going on. Some responded BAN IT.... others said, let them smoke outside. Remember, this is a private club... I bring this up here because there are MANY here that would fall into the camp "BAN IT" but they have no qualms about flicking open their folder loudly in public. The response being... it's legal and it's my knife.... So, I guess personal knives in restaurants need to be banned too.

I have never seen someone in a restaurant using a folder to cut something. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen and it may well happen a lot. My example of the tiny Vic Classic being used to cut a steak or whatever was meant to be humorous. But using something larger to cut makes some sense to me if you need to. After all, I have a knife on me most of the time and if I need it to cut something, I do it whether it be a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a steak, or opening an envelope. Live and let live.

And the very same ones against smoking are all behind making pot legal......

Go figure..... ;)

Kinda funny how things seem to work these days.

You live in Canada..... NOT HERE in the US and in the more PC areas.... ;)

It's much worse than you would believe.

Seems I shall stay in Canada then. :D

A few years back, I participated in the Christmas Gift Exchange organized in the Canadian Connection subforum.
I felt I got a bit more gift than I had given, so I arranged to meet the person I had given the original gift to for an additional one.
We met at one of the (many) local Tim Hortons.
I wasn't sure if he would prefer the Spyderco Superhawk, or a 13 inch blade Condor Machete I had modified, so I brought both.

So, there are 3 of us sitting in a public space with a 13 inch bladed machete, a Spyderco Superhawk, and my Emerson Karambit on the table., as well as a couple of knives the other guys had brought.
One of the other customers in the store notices and comes over...and asks "Hey, can I borrow a knife?"

Instead of being scared or calling the cops, he figures that since there are all those knives over there, he might be able to borrow one for a minute.

Things just aren't the way they used to be 30+ years ago when people used to mind their own business. ;)

These days it's a nightmare.

Jim you don't speak for all the USA and your BS is not truth only an opinion on limited knowledge

Actually I spoke with a few very knowledgeable people on this very subject.... ;)

And I would be very careful about what one does these days.

Just saying.... ;)

Not for me.

Not only used a knife to cut food, but have had get togethers with other knife people in restaurants, many knives out and no problems.

For an example about a month ago met with a fellow knife guy just outside of DC at a 'gourmet' pizza shop...for about 2 hours we must have had 20 pocket knives on the table, no police showed up.

Why were we able to do it in this paranoid environment? We both had testicles

Limited knowledge as in not all knowing, not that you don't have knowledge we all do. We all just do not proclaim that limited amount as truth.

Jesus Christ Ankerson! Be sure to put on a full body plastic suit and a tinfoil hat before you go outside also. Ask everyone around around you if its ok with them before you do anything and for good measure call your local pd informing them of your comings and goings.
To listen to you I would have to stop being an adult and give up all my decision making for the off chance of offending someone. Lets all walk on egg shells our entire life. Smdh. Unbelievable with this outlook on life.

That's pretty funny! I'd loan him the Condor to clean his nails.

That's pretty funny!

I have to admit I was both surprised and amused. :)
I knew we wouldn't be having police issues, but having someone there who needed a knife right then was quite the occurrence.
I was glad to have a witness to prove I wasn't imagining things. :D

Look.....

I completely understand where you and others are coming from, this is a knife forum.....

But society has changed, and not really for the better in anyway at all.

It's not about walking on eggshells, it's about the reality of the general mindset of a very large group of people that live in the US today.

People just can't walk around with blinders on anymore doing whatever they think they should be able to do wherever they think they should be able to do it.

Awareness is more important these days than ever before.

Was the 13" Condor with or without the handle in terms of length? Of course, that's another thread. But what can I say?

Does that mean I can't pee on some bushes after dark in a semi-public place?

Well if you don't what to risk being put on that sexual offender list I wouldn't..... ;)

13 inches of blade. :)
About 19 or 20 inches overall length.
I took a Condor Golok Machete and modified the tip to be more like a cutlass; my friend Dave has it now (figured he needed a machete).

It was an imposing piece of steel on the table, and was in plain view; held in hand by the other two people there while decisions were made.
The guy getting the extra gift ended up taking the Superhawk, because he figured he'd get more use out of it.
