Amsterdam Meet 2011 Report

Wow! I was just thinking yesterday as I held my Dfly 2 FRN.. "I wonder if they're gunna make an H1 version". Seriously! :)

The etched Ladybug looks beautiful.

I Love that the frn UKPKs are getting stiffer slipjoints. Im glad I have waited to get mine. Anyone know when the new stiffer UKPKs will be available?

I like that little squeak too!

I'm a little suprised to see the two wharnies. I was under the impression that that kind of blade doesnt sell very well.

Why no Boye dent on the chapparal?

Thanks for the pics! The knife in the bottom of this pic, to the right of the blurred one, I believe is the Tuff. Since it's not blurred, is there hope of some better pics?[/QUOTE]

Oh Yes, that's it! I'd totally glossed over the photo assuming it would be blurred! I still wonder what that "Fuller", running the full length of the blade, is for... Come on Sal! Chime in... Give us the 411 on your Sprider... Your Zero Salerance... Your Spyderson... Your Three Spider's Forge... Your Sal Spydermo... (Ok, I'm getting further and further out there... sorry...)

Patience my friend, Sal's either still in Amsterdam or already in Germany preparing for the IWA in Nurnberg. :D

Somewhere that question was addressed...I believe Ed discussed it on the Spyderco forum. He said that the fuller helped achieve the balance he wanted and actually added rigidity to the blade (perhaps meaning that it is more rigid to run thicker with a fuller than thinner without).

I do not recall any discussion regarding this feature being added for aesthetics. It was all about performance and balance.

This discussion I speak of was in the thread discussing the Shot Show video where the knife was shown and discussed briefly.

Sharp eyes you have my friend, that is the Tuff alright!
I have no better pictures, I think Mr Blonde took shots of a lot if not all of the knives shown, lets hope he's got this one as well. :)

I will but I have a lot of pics to stil go through.

I'd like to see more pics! That fuller gives it away! This is a must get! I wish it was still the integral compression lock but I guess that means we'll see an integral compression lock Para 2 at some point...

lol.. Just like the concept models ;)
I blurred al faces except for the Glessers.
Never know if people don't want their face all over the net. :)

ps. thanks for bringing the Lucane to the meet

You are welcome ! ;-) (and wiser than I on the matter of photography...)
(I hope MrBlonde has made some pic of the Lucane...)

Mr. Blonde. More great pics from you, always a treat. Got a few questions I hope you can answer:

On the Squeak2.0: Is this model made in Italy, since N690Co has traditionally only been seen on the Italian-made models? (Hossom, etc)

When can we expect to see the "tuning fork" UKPK models to ship?

I'd like to note that the Tern is the first Byrd that I found really attractive. I think I'll be picking up a few of these to give away! And of course, one for myself.

I didn't quite catch whether the Squeak was going to be made in Italy. I recall Eric saying that they're putting the new springs in FRN UKPKs 'now'.

The Ayoob Sprint should be coming out this year. Personally, I think it’s a no-brainer that this design came out in nice and grippy G10. I never quite liked the smooth Almite scales on this model. The knife points superbly, the tip goes where your thumb goes.

Ayoob sprint. Best news yet! Is this gonna be made by Moki? Anyone know? Looks like a Moki tangstamp. Huge news. Thanks much for posting this. :)

After all those Lum Chinese folders, it is probably high time for the tanto to see a sprint run. The G10 has a rougher pattern than the usual foliage green G10 handles. I’m not sure if that was just for the prototype or whether this pattern will be used for production. The tanto tip is something to behold, many different facts. Tough to shoot, I feel lucky I got that shot of the tip. How about making a sprint run of the fixed blade Lum Tanto Sal? Perhaps with a red G10 handle? That one is definitely missing in my collection.

Apparently Laci Szabo is a ‘big guy’ and this knife fits the man; it’s big. The blade length is around 4,5 inches and it used a compression lock to hold the blade open. The Spydercrew did some extensive lock testing so the lock matches Laci’s style of MBC. This involves a reverse grip with the edge out and plenty of trapping and cutting. A separate mechanism is used to hold the blade closed. I tried depressing the compression locking tab while the blade was closed, and indeed, the blade stayed put. The blade doesn’t come out until you want it too. I have no need for an MBC folder for carry or in my collection, but I’m positive this will appeal to many others. Plus, Laci’s logo is way cool.

I love this version of the Military! The previous titanium Military is a cool blade, but it’s heavier than the regular ol’ G10 version. To me, the Military is that wonderful big knife that’s surprisingly thin and light. This fluted titanium brings the Ti Millie back to where it belongs; lightweight high performance. The grip is great, no hotspots – just a good grip. On a sidenote, I understand that the bluing is done by hand on each individual model. This one is a must have! But, thinking ahead, how about a fluted titanium Paramilitary 2? That one would see even more pocket time.

The fluting looks great. Looking forward to see it on more models. Plain grey titanium always kinda bored me but this really is eye candy, the fluted Ti on the Native5 even more.

The fluting does look amazing. Does anyone know how it feels in-hand? Does it grip while wet?
