Amsterdam Meet 2014 Report of Upcoming Spyderco Prototypes

I wrote over on the Spyderco forum that I was on the fence and would need to get the chubby in my hand before I decided if I wanted to purchase.

Chubby will go well with my other Stubby folders: Spyderco Techno, Benchmade MPR, Boker Pipsqueak, Boker Albatros and Curtiss F3 Compact.

Why is it surprising that Spyderco would produce a knife designed or requested to perform one specific task, but useful for a number of other things as well? How many people who buy a Warrior will ever actually need to de-animate a sentry?

Not many but "de-animate a sentry" sounds a lot more badass then "avoid a$$ rape in the Army shower"

Well, it's for women who have been targeted in showers.
I doubt they care about sounding "badass".

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sal.
To see the K2 go in to production is a dream come true. To offer CPM-10v tool steel on this knife will offer user/collector a rare opportunity to own a very high end material in a large folder made by a world class manufacturer , I look forward to the release of the K2.

My gratitude goes to Sal and everyone at Spyderco.

Hello!

Farid, my friend! Great to see your K2 in here! Amazing move by Spyderco (this will indeed become my very first Spyderco...)!

I am lucky enough to own two K2 customs and can only say that we are all in for a real treat! :)

Best regards,
Alex

I'm not going to hate on Taiwan, but hasn't there been enough time to build a bigger /expand the Golden factory employ more Americans, and stamp more of those great designs USA. earth?

Instead your sending more and more to Taichung, they do a great job...but so do us Americans

Didn't Spyderco start as solely an IMPORTER of knives? With that early success came the Golden facility. I'm glad they started a facility here that they are trying to expand as it is. I've read Sal say that a portion of the new facility will be finished by the end of this year and I believe they will have a final expansion after that. Spyderco's a small company...Do you see their knives at Walmart and Big5? No. They can't just turn a 180 on a whim like international conglomerates like KAI. Speaking of which, all the other brands that are all much bigger produce knives overseas also.

Have any idea how swamped Golden is? Forum members requested for a K390 sprint and Sal obliged... The soonest he said that it can be squeezed in is 2015-early2016. They are trying. If the success from the Taiwan facility helps them grow and expand the Golden facility then I'm all for it. Sal posted in General the other day: "I'm glad that production is slowly moving back to the US, we'll keep our foreign partners though, good people, good families".

I have a few Taichung knives they're great, the only thing about them that saddens me is the country of origin stamping

I really like a lot of these new designs and I just can't wait till I add more to my to buy list once I see usa.....might be stupid but as an American it's my right to speak my opinion just as it is your right to speak yours

By all means, support our own goods as much as you can. Just telling you that they are working on it. BTW, I added to my post before your reply, you may want to read it.

I completely understand the desire for more Golden made models, and I'm right there with you. But I also want Spyderco to grow in sustainable ways. Expanding manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. is very, very expensive and, if taken on too suddenly, can deep six a company really fast. So while I'm champing at the bit for my new Military 2, I'll support steady, sustainable domestic growth by picking up the nifty new toys coming from Japan and Taiwan. At least, that's how I justify it. ;)
