Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes

Definitely getting a titanium Squeak and anodizing the heck out of it.

Also, I'm happy to see the Squarehead. I was aware of his locking design, compared to the detent "lock" on the Dogtag, and think I'd prefer it.

Carbon fiber is not cheap or easy to machine, nether is Ti (depending on where it is sourced). It's great as is, we have no idea when it will be released, or what the price will be. Fortunately, Spyderco has a ton of items to fit just about every person's likes, needs, taste, and budget. Just buy things within your means. Wishing one thing was actually another always seemed like an odd thing. Personally, I would not like to see a solid item replaced by a lesser item for the sake of folks that are trying to reach above their specific budget. YMMV.

I'm not sure whether I should be amused or insulted by this response. I have wantonly spent multiple thousands of dollars on knives and other sharp objects over the years and I could afford to buy the Brend Persian even if it comes in at 3 or 4 hundred dollars. The point is ; I don't want to. I couldn't care less about carbon fiber or titanium or any other superficial nonsense. I care about design and fit and finish and the Brend Persian would not be a "lesser item" with VG- 10 blade steel and a G- 10 handle that could probably sell at under $200 dollars. In fact it would be a real man's knife and not ,as it's currently dressed up, some egotistical prop for some doofus to display alongside his expensive watch and cigars.

What's with the un sharpened part on the mamba?? It's like .5" of blade where there is no edge?? Am I missing something?

It's for wedge splitting Troll bones to get the marrow out for a potion to cure doofus. :p

I have no idea, other than aethetics. If you look at a Southard it does that as well, but the wedge is only like 2mm, not a 1/2"!

Some very spectacular knives,
thank you for the pictures.
If I have to pick one, it will be the Nirvana.
But all I can say is wow to all of them
Thank you Spyderco and Mr. Blonde for your work and presentation

But how do you REALLY feel? ;)

I don't know how practical Persians are. I know I don't have any. But they sure look cool!

Funny thing is, I'm not ridiculously far off on my opinion of carbon fiber and titanium. I don't think either add much in the way of functionality to a knife. We disagree pretty fundamentally on the advantages of more expensive, tougher and more wear resistant blade steels, but that's all good.

However, you seem insistent on disparaging those who prefer something you don't. Heck, it seems like that's all you're here to do at this point. Relax, man, AUS8, VG10, 154CM and 440C aren't going anywhere and there will be plenty of nice folders with those and FRN or G10 scales that you can beat on to your hearts content. Heck, knives with more expensive materials will always be in the minority because they're marketed to a very niche audience.

Pop up and say, "Hey, Mr. Glesser, I'd love to see more knives in X and Y." Get enough people on that bandwagon and you'll see more. Your obsession with trashing those who want more just makes you seem like a child throwing a tantrum that you didn't get what you want.

I very much agree with this. Do I like Ti frame locks, yes I do. Would it being made of steel deter me, no it wouldn't. A solid design is just that. Can the materials used make the design perform better, of course. But the most important material is in front of your hand not what its wrapped around

Wasn't there supposed to be a "shaman" model? Anyone know?

Oh yeah, the XL Native with a Comp-lock, right??
hmmm... maybe its prototype was too rough and early in testing stages to photograph and reveal? Not sure.

That's what I'm waiting for as well. Some Golden protos??
Also thought there was a Chinook with a powerlock? Maybe way too soon after the rumor.

But for now I'm all over the Nirvana when it gets released.

I don't think the Chinook had the Power-lock, it sounded like a different collaboration that I was unfamiliar with.

...and also ATR w/ no holes.
Gayle Bradley Flipper.
Slysz Swayback.
Various Chinese Flippers.
other various Comp-lock equipped folders...

Sounds like we only get to visually taste less than a quarter of what was actually passed around there. Although some attendees have written a few details touching on other platforms over on Spyderco forum.

Sal definitely specified that they were thinking about a Chinook with the Tatanka power lock.

Ah ok, sorry for my confusion... I was getting mixed up unconciously between Power-Lock and Stop-Lock. :o
Just a week or so ago I had just asked a Spyderco forum user "tvenuto", whom was at the Amsterdam Meet, if he recalled which folders had a functional Stop-Lock, and he mentioned it was the Paul Alexander Piratta.

Don't recall reading much about new Chinook.

Another interesting cutting edge (pardon the pun) design with the Vrango. I'm trying to imagine how I would use such a blade....
