An idea about Multi-tool, would you like it?

There are many mutli-tool products in the market, for example: Leatherman, Victorinox, Gerber, Sog, Buck, Bear, Kershaw, Schrade etc. Every multi-tool has its strongpoint and shortcoming, there are many reviews and comparisons about the multi-tools. From many reviews, we can find:

1.Sog have the better pliers because which has Compound leverage
2.The tools in the handle can be access from outside and locked on Victorinox multi-tools
3.Leatherman tools have the better knives and scissors, and the pliers is easy to use.

So I have an idea about multi-tools, which has two main feature:

1. The pliers are selectable between standard 1:1 leverage and compound leverage, so when user needs big gripping power, he/she can use the pliers like Sog Powerlock, or else he/she can use the tool like Leatherman.

2.The tools in the handle can be access from outside and the tools can be locked at 90 or 180 degree. The locking can be easy to unlock by one hand.

Would you like this multi-tool?

I see a lot of people are viewing your question zhasl, but nobody is replying. Perhaps I can speak for all of us:

IF the new idea tool you are talking about is of top quality construction, like a Leatherman or a SwissTool, and....

IF the selection of blades and implements is useful and well laid out, and....

IF the price of your new idea tool isn't totally ridiculous,....

Then of course we would all be interested. However, if your new ideas are applied to some hunk of junk made
in China, then FORGET IT. Overall quality matters more than fancy gimmicks.

Hope this helps,
~Bob

Thank your relpy! Bob. I agree your opinion.

I want to make a market research. Of course, some big manufacturers are interested in the inventions, but nobody knows the market foreground, so I pasted this thread.

If the quality is not problem, supposing the big manufacturers make the tools, would you like the featrues the tool has?

Thanks

zhasl

Hi! Bob,
This is not the same tool, this is another tools. Because the earlier design has some problems which were diffcult to solve. So this tool is a new design.

The two designs were almost made at same time. This design is more applied. I still try to solve the problems about the earlier design.

Since we're talking about a feature wish list, how about implements that are sold separately and easy for the owner to swap into and out of the tool body? I know I am not alone in wanting this.

I have finished the design, although there are some technical difficulties that have to be overcomed.

At now, the problem is to find an application. So, if many consumers like the feature, maybe the tools with these feature will appear in two or three years.

Would you like the multi-tools with these features?

Everybody wants the Perfect EDC multi-tool ! :)

If a new model came out that included ALL the positive features of the likes of LM, Vic, Sog etc and was without any of the negatives ...... you would become a very rich man !!

Hi,Perfectionist:
Of cause, there are some negatives, for example, it is more complex and there are some technical difficulties. I applied for patent for the inventions, but it will spend two or three years to that the inventions are patented. If many consumers like the tools, I will try to put the inventions into productions.
By the way, I am in China. I know that many multi-tools made in China are junks. If I make the multi-tools, the quality will be the first.

zhasl.

We hope that you are successful zhasl. I look forward to seeing drawings or pictures of your design someday, when you are able to share them with us. Please keep us informed of your progress!

~Bob

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your hope!

I am conncetting some organizations for productting the tools. Because the inventions have not been issued, I am sorry that I could not share it now. I think the inventions will be issued in six months. I will past the pictures of the inventions when it is issued.

Thanks!

The patent was issued at Aug 23. 2006

You can access the patent by this URL:
http://211.157.104.94/sipo/zljs/hyj...33021;工具&ipc=B25F1/04(2006.01)I

The page is chinese, you can fellow these steps to read the patent.

After you open the patent, you can click the button on left with "32", and then you can open the TIFF files.

After you open the TIFF files, you can click the second button on the top until you see the fig.

___________________________________
Because I could not post jpg file and many people could not see the TIFF files. The web site ask to download a.exe file. The .exe file is not security. This is a free TIFF software, you can try. I think it will be more security than .exe files.

http://www.alternatiff.com/

fellow the guide to install Tiff reading software.

Please give any advice.

If have any problem, please tell me!

I've done the steps above and it downloads a file called setup.exe. Don't wanna click on it coz it's an exe file. Anybody else tried clicking on it?

The setup.exe is a software for reading TIFF files. After download the setup.exe, you can double click the setup.exe. After setup, you should close IE for the software working, then you open the IE, click above URL, then you should can see the TIFF files

Good luck to you !

Can you just post the tiff files in this forums as jpeg?

Rule #1 of web browsing: never ever download and open an .exe file.

another method for installing TIFF reading software:

You can access the US Patent & Trademark Office web site:
http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html

Then you can search any patents, for example: at the term1: input "Leatherman" and click Search Button. After this, you will get a list of patents, click any patent, you will open the patents document in TXT, then, you can click the image button, if you have the Tiff reading software, you can see the image files, otherwise, you can see the metion for installing the Tiff reading software. Follow the guide on the web site to install Tiff reading sofeware, then close IE, open IE again, click the URL above, you can see the TIFF files. Of cause, you can read the US patents Tiff files

I have not popedom to attach any files (.JPG etc)

I am an IT engineer, so when I download any EXE files, I will scan the file with Anti-virus software and then install the software.

It is a good habit no to download any EXE file, but we should believe the US Patents and Trademark Office.

Good luck!

 I tried it myself. Clicking on a setup.exe file can be somewhat dangerous to your PC. Especially if there is content on that TIFF file that can compromise your computer's security.

No offense Zasl, but I think it would be best if you just post a Jpeg format picture of your design/ drawing on this forum. Just put in a watermark or some other security measure to prevent Intellectual Property Theft. :)

Anybody can see the TIFF files?

If you can see the TIFF files, you can access the US Patents & Trademark Office Web Site, search the "multi-tools" patents of Leatherman, swisstool, Sog, Gerber etc, then you can investigate the patents.

Good Luck!
