I liked the last episode quite a bit. Cody, a bit unfairly, was totally in his element. I bet if things were reversed and they were in ohio, Dave would have popped off that bowdrill like nothing. Always helps to know your trees and get a better feeling on which wood will work. I can totally sympathize on the handrill trials by Dave. That is tough stuff to do!
As for the stagnant water, lets remember this is desert and that water was puddled on rock surface. Its a far cry from swamp that would be teaming with wildlife and wildlife feces. I'm pretty sure that the environment in question is much less likely to be contaminated by fecal material than other places. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is my guess why in part Cody was pretty relaxed about it. Notice, he wasn't too keen on drinking from the permanent stream which likely sees much more wildlife visitation.
Somebody suggested at one point in an earlier thread how they wished the two of them would split up and have the show follow both of them. Well this episode demonstrated that and what a great demo it provided! Split up was my favorite, followed by Desert Breakdown.
At this point it really seems like we are just all getting nit picky on the most trivial details. Bottom line, the show contains lots of great tidbits of information. Not a substitute for a survival course, but good information mixed with good entertainment and a little reality drama thrown in. Right now, Dual Survivor solidly sits in the center of the crazy one-manship of Les Stroud where the struggle is the show against the all is calm and perfect world of Ray Mears who shows lots of great techniques but under idealic conditions. Ray never allows a mistake to be shown or his frustration to be shown - he prefers to portray himself as the can't do anything wrong hero who always gets it right the first time or uses pre-set demo models to show you how its done. Its a good show, but Ray's approach also gives the wrong impression.
