An issue with 'Dual Survival'

The thing I dislike about the show is that Dave whines when he can't eat meat. He keeps saying he's not a rabbit. If you look at Cody, eating plants seems to do just fine. He's got some guns on him. I'm totally more like Cody. I'm just not an adrenaline guy. I like both of them though and the show as well.

Cant remember which episode it was, but at one point Dave says " IM AN AMERICAN!! I EAT MEAT FROM 4-LEGGED ANIMALS!!!"

And that was directed at Codys choice of food..

I laughed :D

I see Cody as the "gatherer" and Dave as the "hunter". Both have good survival skills but I would like to see the roles reversed.

See, that's why I'd like to see a show where they go out separately, and then critique each other when they get back.

I have a feeling both would get back alive

Sometimes Dave's method would work better, sometimes Cody's would.

For those of us who are not cable/satellite tv subscribers:
Episodes 2, 3, 4 & 5 are available to watch at Discover Channel's website. I had also found them at a video site somewhere else.

I'm late to this party but I have to say that I really, really enjoy the show. It fills the void that Les Stroud left (the void that neither Grilli or Mykie could fill for me).

My observations:
* Of course it's a little fake and unfactual, it's tv.
* I don't like the way the show is editted to make it seem that Cody and Dave rub each other the wrong way. Clearly, they don't, from what I've seen. I really like the idea of two styles blending together. It's the classic "Odd Couple" tv motif. That said, I hope they lose the imaginary tension and focus on the "more than one way to skin a cat" theme that the show lends itself to.

I'm just starting Cody's book this week

I love the show it is still the best current show. Cody is way cool and smart.
Dave is cool in different ways that's the best part of the show; noticing how they each respect and appreciate each others skill and talent. They admit they are wrong at times. Cody has a pretty good comedy act going. Funny how he is a "hippie" but you know if it hit the fan he would be one mean asset.

But tonight's Arizona show was cool except for one thing; Watercress!!! Cody grazed on some but why not take more? Looked like there was a ton.

I think if I was lost and needed to be found as soon as possible, I'd like to have Dave with me. He would definately have the drive to push forward. He is "in your face" resourceful and inventive.

I think if I intended (or was forced) to stay for any length of time that Cody would be the man. He is not a risk taker and would do just as his book suggests... "Keep my ass alive"

The difference is Dave fights and Cody goes with the flow.... both are important attributes to posess.

I have to say, though... last night's episode titled 'Split Up' was great!

I saw a little bit of next week's preview. Am I right to say that next week they'll be doing something in Dave's area?

Daves from Ohio....They are goin to the pacific northwest...More his speed though, Cody is the desert rat.

I really liked this one. The container he made was really cool, and a great skill to demonstrate. The knapping was cool too. Dave didnt give up on that hand drill, despite the blisters. It was nice to see that he had trouble with the bowdrill. I hate watching these shows that make it look so damn easy, with fire every time.

Thought it was a good one.

It was great to see Cody get his moment on the show ... it's a nice change of pace from Dave always playing the alpha male part.

Hey, if you aren't failing at primitive fire making you aren't evolving and only fooling yourself.

I was a little leary of the Cody vs. Dave thing, at least the way the show was promoted, but I like seeing 2 survival guys interact as opposed to one guy just talking to the camera.

Survivorman is still my favorite, because it seemed less scripted than the others, but all of these survival shows are fun to watch IMO.

That's the feel I get to, I keep expecting Cody to go "Ahhh Screw it, I'm sitting my ass down right here and calling it home, sweet home.

"Split up" was a lot of fun. Cody looked like he was really enjoying himself and made me laugh with some of his silly jokes. I hope I can take one of his courses on my next trip to the US.

There are some minor annoyances in the show, like the constant reminder that Cody is barefoot, but overall I find it to be the best survival show when it comes to the entertainment to actual content ratio. My girlfriend, who didn't enjoy Mears or Stroud, actually sits down to watch it with me.

I know little of these guys. But one thing that I enjoy is that, despite their extensive experience, they both still seem willing to learn.

Like when in the Nova Scotia episode, Dave criticized the plastic shelter. But when he entered the 70 degree warmth, all he wanted to know was how it worked so well.

I enjoyed that episode, as I spent many nights in the winter wilderness there :)

Like others have said here, it's better than 99% of current TV.

Discovery Channel HD has a marathon on today.

Thanks for pointing this out. I saw a couple of shows and enjoyed them a lot.

It gave a little more insight on Cody, and Dave, who I never heard of before, is an impressive survival expert. There's nothing like having an expert hunter on your survival team :)

Frankly, both guys were impressive. I can understand Cody's conservationist/Gaia views, but in the south or central american episode (?), I had mixed feelings watching him choke up about water and how US culture wastes it. It made me want to become more responsible with water use, but at the same time, when brought up how wasteful our culture is, the wiseass in me say he's shedding tears on american plumbing :) OK, we are wasteful and its a serious problem. I have been in situations with little or no water, so I know it's precious.

I thought it was amusing that in the AZ episode that Cody UV treated the water from the moving stream but drank freely from the stagnant pools.

Also I must say that the most interesting thing I've learned in that Lundin is pronounced Lun- Dean not London as I had thought.
