Nice stag Harry, and I do love that back side swedge. Mine should turn up tomorrow hopefully, pics to come................

Thanks Harry. The photos from GECs site showed the stag to be rougher. I haven't seen many gnarly photos so I'm thinking they got sanded down during manufacture.
Besides the GEC pictures , I really did not look at pictures of ones other than your's and mine . Where I got mine , I did not get a chance to look at or buy any other ones . It seems peculiar to me that no one else is willing to post pictures of their's except for Al MerryMadMonk MerryMadMonk who has not received his yet. They must feel that they did not get any Good Stag . They must not know that there is no Bad Stag .

Old Engineer Old Engineer All stag is good, some are better than others. Is the double nail nick a historically traditional feature?

On some older styles yes, Bill reviewed multiple old coke bottles from my brothers and my collection, took many measurements from multiple knives and reviewed many other old designs, and in our opinion he made a modern classic, personally I think he hit this out of the park, both in F&F and price, that's alot of steel and alot of processes to make that pattern. I love it!

I can not answer your question on the double nail nick . It seems like someone said that some of the big old knives had them , but don't quote me on that . Maybe Augie Augie has a better answer for us . I know that my BIG $21 Western does not have the Double Nick . How do you rate the Pull on yours Alan ?
Do you think you need a Double Nick ? I know that I do not .
Edited to add : Looks like Gary Kifer Gary Kifer just answered you my friend .

Thanks Gary Kifer Gary Kifer . I couldn't agree more. I prefer stag but the ebony is as classic as it gets. There's no doubt that costs increase as size increases. These are priced below their true value or what the market could bear.
Old Engineer Old Engineer Harry, I'd rate the pull between 4-5 but from half stop to open it springs open smoothly. I don't need the double nail nick. I can open mine from either position. I can live with it from a historical perspective and also because its the only thing I'd change in an otherwise excellent knife.

I have the ebony and the stag with a Yellow Rose due on Monday. My collecting habits have been pared back so we'll see what I keep but based on these examples it will be hard to let any of them go.

The double nail nick is historically correct on this pattern and a few others such as the sunfish or elephant toe.

Received my stag and it is a stunning knife, excellent fit and finish and has the best action of the 3 I have so far.

Got my Stag #97 today and I am very happy. I think the stag is fantastic. To me, it is the best of both worlds, while it has a lot of character, it is also fairly thin.:) The pull is pretty good too. It snaps to half stop, to open , and to closed. For the cherry on top of the sundae, it also came with a button.:D My pictures diffently don't do it justice. Here it is:

That's a beauty Larry!!……… I hope when mine arrives it looks as nice...….. Congratulations on a great knife!!

I just got my Yellow Rose to complete my triple play. All three have have excellent f&f with pulls about 5. The strangest thing is I received pins with each of them. For me, that's a rarity. The Yellow Rose came with a standard 97 pin instead of a YR. My only complaint and it's a strange one is how much oil did they ship these with? All three were dripping in oil.
I wasn't planning on keeping all three but it will be hard to let any of them go.
