...And a large Coke. GEC 97 Thread!

Seriously, I find it interesting that so many people consider this to be a "big" or "too big" knife. (I don't mean that in any condescending way). Maybe I have big hands, but I prefer big knives in general. In folders, both modern and traditional, I seriously dislike most anything that is at or under 3". I only have 1 traditional that is under the 3" mark as far as the cutting edge, and that's a GEC #99. Even then, the full blade length is 3".

I look for folding knives with blades right around the 4" mark, but regularly carry larger knives. A single blade folder even when that long, still carries easily to me, flat and long doesnt make for difficult or uncomfortable carry.

The largest slipjoint I own is a S&M Quart Barlow (closed 5 inches, 9 inches open). The blades are a half inch too long to legally carry it concealed. It is a beauty, but not comfortable in a pocket IMHO.

I really like the look of the Northfield Yellow Rose. Does anybody know the actual blade length on this knife? At this time we have a 3.5" limit on concealed carry knives. Hoping to change that soon though...so I may have to pick one up just in case...

Not making any political statement here, but man did it just plain bum me out that you have to worry about a slipjoint knife being too long because of a "concealed carry" law.

Just walked in...

Ah, just found it on CK site. Blade is 3 13/16". Sharpened length is 3 ⅜". "But officer, the sharpened area is less than 3.5 inches"...

My feelings too, I'm fortunate I live in a state with basically no knife laws but even if I lived somewhere else I'd carry whatever I felt like.

I know! And we are a "Constitutional Carry" state for firearms...as it should be for knives as well. We passed the carry law last year(?), maybe Knife Rights could give us a little help here.

Man this is a tempting one. With a knife this big I'd want a really strong pull, anything less than crocodile jaws wouldn't be enough for me. I can't see myself even carrying something this big but oh man are these nice looking.

Sadly, other than this year's forum knife, this may be my last knife purchase. I have plenty of slipjoints to enjoy. Been getting rid of most of my non slippies. I am awaiting the arrival of the 97!

You’re getting me pumped, Mike! I too love the “bounce-back” on big blades. Now I just need my stag reservation to come through and I’ll be set!

Thanks for making the video.

Looks like a superb knife. I’m looking forward to the Northfield editions. I will say, I always cringe when I see dealers closing the blade with one hand, especially with a large knife like this.... (they all seem to do it). I guess that’s the collector in me.

Whoever gets one of these in hand first, please let us know if it suffers from blade slap.... all of the larger patterns seem to have that issue.

I’ve got a jigged bone on reserve but the bone for this run is looking more “clawed” than jigged. Not sure if I like it yet. I’m looking forward to seeing some pictures of the finished knives.

I may just break for that "Cola" colored micarta now. I typically use micarta and save others for nice. I like this pattern and size and the first examples hitting the showroom floor look fantastic. :)

Watching your video, Mike, It appears the "snap-open" talk is not strong! How would you characterize the walk and talk??? I know you like the half-stop. I have been hoping these knives would have substantial springs, commensurate with their size!!
