And Another One Bites the Dust

Who the hell really cares if he did or not anyways? At least it's not some science fiction show, or crap television cartoon like most of the stuff on TV these days. It is informative demonstrations of applicable techniques for survival and bushcraft. Since OLN got watered down, there really is not much that is better in that department.

Gotta say, I care. Riding on the backs of honorable veterans is a disgrace no matter the circumstances. As far as Teti? Perhaps he was in Delta or CIA. If that's the case, we will never know.

Or I can post multiple times (especially when I'm quoting and responding to different people in those posts, fyi).

Didn't mean to come across as snarky, I'm just a bit overzealous with organization.

Usually I don't put too much weight on what someone says they are, but for a few subjects like survival this is so true. I've enjoyed watching amateurs on youtube who are completely honest to that fact; it helps me to identify mistakes they make.

In general, professionals do things in a way that works and they do it consistently. Amateurs falter and vary a lot and so you have an opportunity to learn from many failed or suboptimal attempts.

"read, read, read"
You see that a lot around here. It's true for all forms of learning; take it all in.

Seems like alot of mumbo jumbo to me. Hard to tell who is telling the truth and who isn't. Didn't take long for Dave Canterbury to be booted when his credentials came under fire. Teti is still on the show. Mike Hawke has had his show cancelled. Coincidence? I'm not for either as I like em both, but time will tell, I'll reserve my judgement till an actual judge rules on it all. Stolen valor is a serious deal. But if teti was a spook, then the truth may never come out. All those stars with no name...they aren't heros? Takes more than a 5.56 to win a war. Some folks forget the action that goes on behind the scenes... if it's on the internet, it must be true right? If he's a phony then screw him. If Hawke if trying to burn him down for personal reasons, then screw him. Too many lawyers involved now. It's all very dissapointing, money sucks.

The linked article by Leghog is really negative about Teti's character. Without integrity, what do you have? Nothing. The hot checks troubled me more than anything as that is a conscious decision to essentially steal. Integrity? Ethics?

That article did not by any means depend solely on the testimony of Myke Hawke. I would suspect that more than one of those making statements as to his history and character was verifiable and beyond reproach. None of them, that I am aware, had anything to gain financially or otherwise by stating their knowledge of his service and problems with his character. I suppose we will see shortly.

This is off the main subject, about which I know little.

I looked at that link and discovered Mykel Hawke’s real name.

I don’t get it. Say you are on TV as a military veteran, survival expert, and general tough guy. Say your name is Mykel Hawkeye. Why change it to Mykel Hawke? Why throw away the perfect name?

Is he afraid to steal valor from Natty Bumppo?

Not really. Seems fairly clear. Regardless, now that Teti has moved this into the court room, he'll finally have to produce his DD214 and NG22 and confront any inconsistencies.

Discovery Channel's unwillingness to even address this or answer even basic questions regarding their vetting of their own stars' claims just shows what they are all about too.

Hawkeye is a hard name to pull off without the smile and martini glass:D Plus, he would've had to call Ruth "Hot Lips"!

Honey was bad enough on a TV show. :D I asked Hawke about that once and his look was not warm and friendly but I have to say that he did not respond with a smart remark which goes to character. He responded with something like ... oh, I don't know.... Apparently that is normal language that he uses for his spouse. I am just not accustomed to frequent public endearments or shows of affection and I think it detracted from a good show.

With that experience, I essentially believe most of what Hawke has said publically about Teti.

Never heard of the guy till now.

However, to not show your DD214 when asked is an issue in my mind.
Then for the SF Association to kick you out doesn't look good either.
Throw in all the guys coming out against him and it keeps getting worse.

Not sure why Discovery hasn't learned to at least check a guy's DD214 if he's claiming a bunch of military cred.

I have been to several SERE and wilderness survival schools. I have no qualms admitting that I have learned a ton from service members and civilians that have never been shot at or even near a combat zone. Why is that not enough.

I think because we worship violence, the military and the whole myth of the guy going it alone here in the US, so there is a propensity to want to associate oneself with those things.

Truth is somebody with military experience may have some training but that doesn't make them better than somebody entirely self taught. Also combat experience other than marksmanship skills maybe I don't think really equates with survival skills. You aren't fighting nature you are trying to work WITH it.

At a basic level, man works with nature to survive and that is pretty much the essence of the majority of the woods craft skills. That assumes that you consider fire part of nature. Man and a beaver may be comparable at a basic level. No, I don't see a need for a TV person to have a background in the military. The military stuff is just credentials that are used to sell the show at a basic level. Teti's credentials are now in question. I don't believe Fat Men in the Woods touts military credentials and it has been a pretty good survival show.

Am I the only one who thinks if put on the spot Joe couldn't make a friction fire by any means? I don't watch the show enough to have ever see him do it, but it seems like he always relied on Cody and now Matt to get the fire started.

Making a friction fire is certainly not in Teti's skill set based on my watching essentially every episode.

I can't say that's my litmus test for someone who knows what they're doing. I think it's a good skill but honestly if you rely on that you're having fun or you DON'T know what you're doing. A bic at the gas station on your way to the woods is what? A buck or two?;)

Most everything he DID do was a sign he didn't know what he was doing though. :D

I dont think you can call his friction fire skills into question, he seems to have burnt everyone he has ever come in contact with in person.

Neither can I honestly. I was taught and teach for the cultural learning aspect as well as just basic fire fundamentals. Never as my only option as a survival tool as you're right, bics are a real world solve, that's what I use. Those things survive my washing machine and dryer and still light up after. I was speaking more to the way the twos' roles are edited/portrayed on the show. Joe the hunter/acrobat, Matt the makes fire and shelter character. It just seemed funny that he had all that time with an instructor like Cody and nothing rubbed off?:D

I don't think Teti like Cody much (and vice versa) even at the early days together as Teti was always hung up on defense where as Cody was focused on "getting out".
