Show your support for the first Blade Forum's Traditional fixed blade. We've had a vast array of folders from single blade to a multi blades, a Cannitler and Stockman but we've yet to have a fixed blade. There are lots of options and most of the manufacturers have a small fixed blade for under $100. The Bird and Trout pattern is a perfect back pocket size fixed blade.

It's ticks all the boxes, it's different, we've never done anything like this before. It's available within our price range, lots of available steels and with the resurgence in the interest in traditional patterns on the rise I think with a little effort 2018 might be the year of the BF Fixed Blade.

Here's a link to a current thread on Bird and trout knives please feel free to pepper that thread and this one with your pics and stories. Let's make 2018 the year the BF knife didn't fold.

Here's a few pics to start this off.

I love B&T knives, and would certainly buy a forum variety one. My vote, though, is for a folder, just cuz I'd probably carry it more.

I voted fixed, and I would like to suggest that we approach L.T. Wright to do it. O1 or A2 steel is his go to, the smaller knives he makes are kinda already at that pricepoint, and they are excellently traditional.

I think the time is right, used to buy Anzo Bird and Trout knives for $50 now his blades were a little thick because they were made from files but a little re profiling and it became a super slicer. For the people who don't think they'd carry one, take a look at the AG Russell Wood's Walker knife with the leather pancake sheath for it.

It's a perfect size for every day use, no need for one hand opening and closing, it's already open. Many of the neck knives evolved from B&T knives, they were the perfect size and there are lots of aftermarket sheaths for that size too.

I usually would not support the switch to a fixed blade for the forum knife, but I do like the idea of switching things up. Particularly if the knife is a bird and trout, since I really don't need a hunting knife. A little bird and trout could be handy though.

I mean, I am in for a forum knife regardless, but this would be a fun variation. Especially if there was any chance of getting a pancake sheath with it.

Argh. I passed on one of those at the flea market a couple of weeks back.
I was fixated on vintage folders, but have been kicking myself. Maybe it will still be there at the Nov flea mkt.

Since it is unlikely I will be able to afford a 2018 BF knife, I did not vote. I don't want to mess up the results.
That said, I think a classic Bird and Trout or some other small/medium fixed blade (for example, a Nessmuk or Kephart pattern) would be cool.

I'd be in for a BF Bird and Trout, especially if it had a stacked leather handle. I've been casually looking for an old model Camillus 1006—from before when that model number was used for a filet knife—for a while now. Maybe I'll end up with a BF 2018 B&T before I find one. ;)

Sorry, I gotta go with folders still. Other than a GEC, and my great uncle's old Marbles hunting knife, I've never been very interested in them, and definitely can't afford to start branching out.

Any reason we couldn't do one of each?

:)

Well, I was really hoping to push some to get a copy of this old single spring Remington made (hint, hint, Charlie...)

But if we are going for a fixed blade this is my preference:

On a side note, for the numbers we're reaching into, there's no way this can be done by anything other than a major production manufacturer. While there are a lot of guys out there who make nice fixed blade in the price point we seem to be stuck at, I wouldn't count on any of them to deliver 500 quality knives in less than a year. Not going to happen. Most of them don't sell 500 knives in anything close to a year. And making anything over 10-20 of the same pattern is hard for them.

So, that leaves us with either a manufacturer willing to make a new or modified version of something they already produce, or one willing to tool up for something completely new. My guess is the only way this is going to happen is if we find something we're all going to agree on in a current manufacturer's line. That could get ugly.

Eisman, if we could make it look like that Remington, I'd switch my vote in a heartbeat!!:)

And I think you are spot on in what you say above about getting 300 - 500 FBs made!

I’m not so sure there would be that many people interested in a FB knife, but I’ve been wrong before. I would be though (especially if it were D2).

Love that fixed Eisman. Is that a Loveless design?
