I’m sorry guys, but I have to stick with folders. The only way you could scare my wallet out for a fixed blade is if it was a puukko or a Scagel style knife with a folder in the handle, but neither would be likely for a BF knife, I feel.

I really like the looks of the medium and the long Banff, VG-10 steel. There's also the G.Sakai fieldmaster(?) with ZDP-189 main blade. Not to get too specific. But brands like these would at least be engravable, or possibly stamped for Bladeforums. Just a thought.
Thanks, Neal

Too many places a fixed blade is illegal to carry. I'm not interested in a fixed blade at all.

Same with me. Being in NorCal means fixed blade is only useful in the back yard or out hiking.

I wonder if Barry would ever consider a batch of B&Ts with his particular flavor added in?

How many of the TC Barlow's went to states where FB carry is forbidden. Also is it that CC is against the law but open carry is fine. I know Charlie Mike open carries some mighty large FBs and he's in CA and frequents some of the less desirable parts of the state necessitating a need for larger FB for SD. A small B&T on a belt sheath could be unobtrusive but therein lies the problem in CA I suppose. If it can't be seen it's considered concealed.

So I wonder what percentage of the folders were bought from members who did so because it was legal over a FB knife. I'm in PA and it's basically carry what and how you want minus the auto/dagger/shiv clause.

Same with me. Under CA's draconian knife law, a fixed blade, no matter the length, is considered a "dirk or dagger" and is illegal to carry "concealed" (not visible).

I voted folder, only because I rarely, if ever, carry fixed blade knives. That being said, I have a buttload of them, so a B & T wouldn't be a bad thing at all!

This seems way to early to talk about next years forum knife, but since there's a thread why not...

My vote would be for a Schatt & Morgan 69 barlow or Mountain Man lockback.. just to give us something different versus ending up with a pattern that GEC is running at the same time as the forum knife.

Laws do get tricky with fixed blades, and we also have some international members that might find difficulty with it.

I have to be really careful in NJ. If I jay walk and have a SAK Classic on me, I could get in trouble. I pretty much have to be hunting/camping/hiking to carry a fixed blade.

I understand some areas are not fixed blade friendly and i am not emotionally attached to the outcome of what knife is ultimately chosen as i am sure it will be great as all the past years are. It is legal to carry a fixed blade where i live but i couldnt tell you the last time i had one on my belt! The few i have i collect and use in the kitchen. i keep a fairly coarse edge on mine and its my official tomato sandwich knife among other kitchen and shop dutys :)

What would be really cool is if could be done in collaboration with a maker here! The knifemakers area has several makers with great takes on the classics. A horsewright colab forum knife would be awesome! am i dreaming?

Bein' a little too premature and not wanting to get political or drift too far from my original intention of this thread
I'm gonna close it now so as not to cause any grief for our beloved mods, (they have enough to do ;) ) . Ido wanna that everyone for their replies and I'll revisit this idea next year.

Thanks again for all your input.

To be revisited at a later date.
