And The Snark Goes On

Well, I gotta say thats pretty well said. Cant argue with your logic. Gotta let em grow up. Fact is, I dont worry about my boy as far as how he will do in life. He's smarter than me and has a hell of a work ethic now. My daughter however, I loose sleep over. Poor thing, im hoping she just hasnt found that thing in life that excites her. Once she does, I just hope its worth while.

Welding, I'm certified. Been so since college. Mig, tig, ark, oxy acetylcholine, DC reverse welding. You name it. I have joined it with electric. Which brings another danger to the table. Electrocution. Lol, didn't have the ground right on the mig just tonight and about knocked my balls out of my undies, lol.

Todd, it is fantastic that you are teaching your son to weld, and pretty impressive that he wants to learn about it. I look forward to seeing pics of the project.

Has being a certified welder helped in your career? I currently make my living as a welder (mig). Everything I know about welding I have learned at my current place of employment. Everyone I talk to says that for the most part, certificates aren't terribly important as most places will make you take their weld test to get hired. I am thinking about taking classes to get certified, if nothing else than to learn other types of welding. Just wondering if you have had similar experiences.

I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill.

Murph, it's candy beer time!

Gonna have to get me some of that. I do enjoy their cherry wheat.

I'm gonna have to find a little wood burner for the cabin. The fireplace is set up for a wood burning stove. Gonna have to be small. Hoping to find a good used one. Not needed now, but when she starts getting cold, gonna need one fo sho.

Dubz, talk to Bladite. He's put some MASSIVE time into his stove. I'm sure he can guide you in some solid directions.

Or talk to Trade about it, that rapscallion is always finding random awesome stuff at flea markets and the such.

I've looked a little on Craigslist, but haven't found anything small enough yet. I was looking into getting a new Vogelzang "Lit'L Sweetie", http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200394664_200394664 but the reviews are mixed. One swears by it, then another says don't waste your money. I realize the good stoves are big bucks, but I'm not gonna spend a lot. I may luck into one at a garage sale, who knows.

SOE micro wallet showed up today. Very nice! I'm digging the cut down version of my wallet "necessities".

MR ASAP is here as well. Looks great as expected, but won't know for sure till she's loaded and tested.

Hey Murph, if you get a chance could you do a couple size comparison pics of the ASAP? Would be greatly appreciated

Went to this spot called D.L bliss in Tahoe for a 4 day camp out with the family this past Sunday, day one we get there and it stormed on us, day two helped out neighbor out with lighting his camp fire with tree sap, feather stick and my flint rod after he wasted 1/2 of his charcoal lighter making big flash flames, showed him what to find for future fires then later that night my boy starts to complain about not feeling good, ending up staying up with him until morning, drove down to the store bought some meds and ended up driving around the whole lake. We get back to camp pack up and leave today... We check his temp and he's got 103, crazy that it happened over night. He's down to 99.5 right now.. well have a good night and chat more tomorrow!

Alright. The Holiday Inn bar in Sacramento is like a Twilight Zone at midnight.
There are some serious freaks and geeks!
So far it's been a lot of fun though.
So far I've met a 92 year old grandma who loves whiskey, a bull dyke who works for the VA, and a nation wide industrial contractor. Interesting folks to say the least. Haha:D

So, what the hell are you doing in Sacramento....and why didn't you wave as you drove by? My daughter was just there a week and half ago, and I was in Los Angeles last weekend.

Seems like everytime you plan a relaxing time its anything but, But good for helping out a neighbor even if it was a temporary one.
Hope your son gets better quickly.

First night on the graveyard shift is almost over. Seems like an incredible waste of time so far but somebody's gotta do it. The extra money will definitely come in handy but I'm getting back on days ASAP.

JD - Sorry to hear about your boy. Hope he's feeling better soon.

Dex is back indeed! I gota little something coming in the mail from him soon. I'll post pics when it arrives.

Warrior - I'm really late with this but congratulations on the cabin! I hope y'all get to enjoy the heck out of it for many many moons. Wish I could pull something like that off.

Morning snark!

Anybody with kids knows exactly what you're talking about JD. They are cute little clones of yourself that fester with disease and carry every known pathogen. That just makes 'em stronger for later in life. Have to love getting a break when the sickness takes the energy right out of em! sorry it always wrecks vacation plans! Speedy recovery, smoke and prayers coming your way.

Well, thats kinda hard to answer in my situation. No, really as far as has it helped my career. But, I never utilized the fullest extent of my education.

Its true most places especially factories will teach you how to weld. In fact, they prefer it that way so they don't have to pay extra for a certified welder if they would anyway. But there is certain jobs that you have to have the card to do. For example, when I was in college I had a lot of plans. Always wanted to work in the aviation industry. Large civilian transport helicopters to be exact. Started out and got my A&P licence (airframe & powerplant) basically its a certification to be able to perform repairs/fabrication on aircraft. One example is I have welded on aluminium spars. The main things that holds the wings on airplanes. Needless to say, if you dont know what your doing and mess up people die. So, you have to be certified. In my case many years ago it was many hours of class time and a hell of a lot more lab time. Dont know what it involves now or cost for that matter.

Other examples are welding things that are tempered and the hardness can not be affected by the heat. Semi frames are a good example. You have to weld them in DC reverse. Basically the rod pulls the heat from the surface being welded. Pretty cool really, quite a bit harder to do. Same as stick welding aluminum. It like welding bubble gum together.

Underwater welding is another example. Had the privilege of trying that once in college. Pretty much thought id never breach the surface of the water alive. Thats pretty scary stuff.

The list goes on and on. But pretty much, high precision, high risk stuff requires certification. Then on top of that. Experience.

Id say go for your certification and get a higher paying job with it and expect a lot of travel.
