Cannonballs off the 6 ft diving board are TREMENDOUS fun as well. One time I did a "Preacherman's Seat" (that's what I learned it as, you jump in basically sitting with your legs directly in front of you), from the 10' diving board, normally when you jump in that way though you end up with your butt going in first and you make this HUGE splash. Well, I didn't rotate my butt forward quite enough so I ended up landing with my legs and butt FLAT, basically did a bellyflop with the back of my legs, LET ME TELL YOU! That was pain like I've never felt before. My balls felt like they had just been crushed by some Amazon queen.

So getting thrown in the water from a boat is NOT the best way???

I guess my father doesnt "know it all" after all LMAO Me and my brother was both thrown in from a boat.... We figured it out :D

I take my kids to a hotel with a pool over an hour away.... outside of big cities, kind of in the middle of nothing... Where we can have the pool to ourselves pretty much.. And we normally do have the pool to ourselves all weekend when we go.

Then i just go in with them in the deep end and put my arm under them and tell them to swim... Until they start splashing water all over the place then i let them go... It worked for my daughter.... My son on the other hand.... Instead of swimming the first time we tried it, he swallowed the pool and threw up on me and all in the water.. A LOT, it was like a scene from the "Exorcist" I have no idea how that much throw up came out of him.... And because of that they closed the pool to clean it, and we were done swimming that time LOL

My son still hasnt picked it up all the way, but he is indeed getting better at it... Right now he uses the doggy paddle more than anything though..... My daughter on the other hand is getting pretty decent at swimming. She has about 3 years on her brother though. He will pick it up!!

Worked for me. But Dad gave me several lessons before hand, and I was always comfortable in the water to begin with.

My FiL tried the same thing with my wife when she was a kid and she sank like a stone. He had to jump in and save her.

So.... your mileage may vary :D

I've taught and coached swimming, and the best advice I can give is to just keep them in the water....eventually she'll build up some confidence. Just don't let her NOT go to lessons...

This worked for me as well. I took my daughter once or twice a week last year all summer to the pool. She was always a little hesitant around the water. Then one day in November or December a switch just flicked inside her; now she doesn't want her lifejacket, is able to open her eyes and swim around underwater, and basically doesn't need/want me anywhere near her while in the pool. This year she's above average compared to the other kids in swimming lessons. Keep her in the water and she'll eventually get the hang of it.

Today's score. Finally found a Stanley set for under $40 Cdn.

So my wife calls me up and says her boss just asked if she would be interested in a supervisor position in a new (local) office with a raise of a little over 5 bucks more an hour....

The thing is we plan to move by the end of next year so my wife asks should she even apply for the position.... WELL DUH! I told her damn right apply for the position and dont mention ANYTHING about moving. They might pick someone else if they know we are not sticking around... But man an extra 5+ an hour would help BIG TIME!! ......Fingers crossed.

The only thing i worry about is if my wife feels like things are working out real well here she might not want to move anymore LOL... Especially if she is making a bunch more money.

See the plan is when we move to Florida my wife will go to nursing school, Her goal is to be a nurse, she is a licensed medical asst now... So hopefully her goal of being a nurse will push her to want to move more than a little extra money "right now" here..... im from the woods, and im just trying to get home.... But my wife is from here, she grew up in Philly and Brooklyn so she is used to these big cities.... She loves camping, but i had to convince her to want to LIVE in the woods... It took a lot of convincing too... So i dont want this extra money clouding her thinking LOL

Im trying to pick a pair of pants out of 5.11, 24/7, and Blackhawk.....

I think im leaning more towards the Tru-Spec 24/7's

Also trying to pick out of the Spec Ops Better BDU belt and the 5.11 TDU belt....

Im leaning more towards the Spec Ops......

Am i leaning in the wrong directions???

I've got 5.11 and Tru-Spec. The Tru-Spec 24/7's are my all time favorite pants. Have not owned the Blackhawks because I quit looking after wearing the TruSpecs.

LOL yea they closed the pool completely to have it cleaned.... But when i say it was a lot, i mean a LOT... stuff was floating, stuff was sinking... It wasnt good... LOL

Thanks Trade!! Thats all i needed to hear :D

This may or may not change your mind. Ethan wears and loves his 5.11s dearly. :D

Not so much LOL

Which of the 2 has a looser fit? If either..... Thats about the only thing that might sway my choice a little from the 24/7s is if the 5.11s are looser in the leg areas...... I prefer a looser fit.

I can get the 24/7s a little cheaper, and prefer the pocket "layout" on them.

Now i like the idea of the knife pocket on the 5.11s... But the way the back pockets look to be at an angle is almost a deal breaker by itself.

I have 5.11s, love them. I've owned truspecs, but they just weren't cut fight for me. Almost too close to GI.

The only of those three that I've worn is the 5.11's...and, to me, they seem a little snug in the rear and the "package". They do have a slightly different pocket layout between the shorts and pants if I recall, and I like the shorts better (the 11" pro version). Just this morning, I noticed guy at work wearing pants similar to 5.11's and they turned out to be Blackhawk lightweight tactical pants. Looked like they had an even better pocket layout, so I'm gonna have to try them.

SO this video helps a bunch.... There are a lot of differences i wasnt aware of LOL

I dont like how the 24/7s pockets are all sewn on one side, and id prefer the wider crotch area, but i do like the pocket shape of the 24/7 better on the back and the flashlight pocket...

Man its going to be a hard choice.

Recently, I bought two pair of Tru Spec 24/7's (at Smoky Mountain) and two pair of 5.11 Strykes (at Gander Mountain).
I'm only shopping at stores that end in "Mountain" from now on.

They are both good pants. I'd be hard pressed to choose between them, but the Tru Specs were a lot more economical.
I think you get more for your money with the Tru Specs. I do not like the comparably priced 5.11's (TacLite Pros, I believe).

ETA:
Oh yeah, and to throw in another monkey wrench, I wear a 34/32 in 5.11's and a 34/30 in the Tru-Specs. :p
I wore these 5.11 Strykes through four days of ESEE field survival and land nav.
They held up well even though I went through all manner of bramble and briar.
I wore the Tru Specs during the ESEE ropes course. For the record, that is not Bladite's sex swing.

So the TruSpecs run longer?

And cool pictures!! The rope course picture brings back.... Not so great memories LMAO... I did an Air Assault course in the army and had to go out of a helicopter.... Wasnt fond of doing so... Me and heights dont get along so well LOL

I think im going to have to grab a pair of 24/7s and the 5.11s and just see for myself. I like and dislike things about both.... Im sure both are plenty good enough for me trotting through the woods anyways LOL..... The Carhartts look OK but i cant get them in the color and size i want.... I have a couple "River store" gift cards coming in soon so whatever i pick has to come from there..... I dont normally like shopping for any clothes online but i need some pants and this way i dont have to come out of pocket.
