Angry at CRKT

Very helpful answer.

And that of course, answers the OP's question...

In case you didn't notice, I'm being sarcastic.

Kind regards,

Jos

if you read the whole thread, I already tried to answer him, made a mistake though I meant torx 8 instead of torx 6 which is often for the other screws not the pivot.

CRKT uses low quality steel

I used to buy a few CRKT knives until I started using them and had the edge ruin on green branches. Used other major brands in the same manner and their edge held up.
So there was or is something wrong with the steel. Although the older models I had were pretty well made, otherwise.

FYI the only place I was able to find a set with small bits was at Sears (Craftsman). Local Home Depots and Canadian Tire didn't have the smaller sizes.

There... I didn't say Torx once!

Edit... D'OH!

Oddly, none of the ones I have work. I suspect that they're not metric, but I do have a set of such wrenches and none fit enough to bite.

I am fairly certain that Torx bits do not come in metric/standard variations...just Torx sizes...

Is it possible you are trying to use allen wrenches???

Just askin'....(Note my sig line ;))

I have Pesh-Kabz, Crawford-Kasper and Polkowsky that are decent old heavy hitters from CRKT. I used to have a Viele Wasp with some pretty nice steel but traded it off. I recently found a new one on sale but they've totally downgraded the materials.

It's quite annoying that a lot of you guys are saying he needs a Torx when OP clearly needs a Smatchet :D

I bought a couple of the limited editions Viele wasps when they came out.
Those were the best knives CRKT ever marketed (I'm fairly certain Klotzli actually made them) and they are $600 custom quality!

It's really a hit and miss with CRKT...I have a couple full size S-2's and they're fantastic....never could figure out why they stopped making that one unless the turn around profit on them (being titanium) was too low. I had a LAKES P.A.L that lasted roughly a month before it shut down, it was a nice looking knife but shoddy made. Being a Taiwan make too has put their knives quite low on the list for me also.....America needs the work~build it here and people will buy it.

I found most my knives use a Torx 8 or 9 for the pivot and a Torx 6 for the clips. You probably be fine if you get a set of torx screwdrivers that can do 6, 8, 9, and 10. Maybe throw in a 15 for good luck. They are pretty cheap from any hardware store.

Torx sets are often missing some sizes. Better stores sell the missing bits individually. If you want a complete set look for the following sizes: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,15,20,&25. There are larger sizes but they aren't used on knives. There seems to be some variation in sizes (meaning some manufacturers are not building their bits to the standard). I have 2 T-6 bits of different brands. One goes into the screw head, and one does not.
