Announcement: The BladeForums Charity Bowie.

Looks like we are underway. Contributions have started coming in.

I understand, Joe Mandt will send a bar of W2 to Jerry on Monday.
All good news.
Thanks,
Joe.

You are correct Joss, but the makers are up to the task. Jerry wants to have the blade all forged out by the end of next weekend.

Whoa. Jerry goes whole hog when he does something.

Guys, I'll be sending out a forums-email and announcing this on the site shortly. What else can I do to help? I'd like to make sure as much of the groundwork is done as possible before pulling the trigger and asking for contributions, so what specifically needs to be done before you guys start collecting $$$$?

Yes, he does. i am sending him a 3/4 x 2 x 8 chunk of W2, which, in theory, should stretch out to at least 3/8 x 2 x 13-14, so that there will be plenty for the blade and probably enough left over for Jerry and Dan to do a little testing on to get the HT just right:thumbup:

Hey Spark, Thanks for the support.

The initial contributions are to fund the materials and expenses. The makers are ready to go as are the photographers, so that ball is in play. We have an info pack enroute from the Charity, they tell us there is no need to register unless we want to use their logo.

The main outstanding task is the purchase of Raffle tickets ........ and the making of the knife:D

Not sure on the etiquette of raffling, whether to start selling tickets before the knife is made or not..... we suspect it will be better to wait until its completed and will probably go that route. We also need to confirm the legality of the raffle which may take some time.

At that point your forum emails and announcements will be really appreciated to help sell as many tickets as possible.

Closer to the time of sale of the tickets we would like a formal announcement. In the mean time the pledges we have so far seem to be sufficient to take this forward if they are collectable - therefore our focus on the publicity you can provide is drumming up awareness now, getting the excitement going, and then encouraging the purchase of raffle tickets when we give the green light.

Cheers,

Stephen

As soon as the knife is finished and ready to go, I'll pull the trigger on mass mailing forums members, and announcing site wide. Do you guys need more funding right now for materials? Is there anything else I can do?

We got hit a bit from left field last night, when it came to our attention that, contrary to our earlier understanding, there may be some legal issues around the running of a Charitable Raffle ....... we are looking into it and will keep everyone posted.

Cheers,

Stephen

Perhaps, but they are done all the time. I am sure you guys will figure out the details post haste
:D

There is something seriously wrong if a charity raffle is subject to legal issues. Is that how bad things have become? I don't have the skills to offer anything worthwhile but I'm at least good for a couple raffle tickets.

And so it begins......the bar of W2 is on its way to Mr. Fisk. I don't have pics, but hey......you know what it looks like.......flat, rectangular, kinda rusty/blue lookin' :D So.......who's gonna sacrifice up that piece of primo stag that they have been hoarding and taking out of it secret hiding place once a month to rub and droool over since the export ban? lol

From what I understand, Jerry is sending a piece of stag to Russ, and Russ will choose between it and some that he has on hand.

Jerry has gotten the green light from his local jurisdiction to proceed with our raffle drawing at his October Micro Show in Arkansas.

Thanks Jerry for your help in clearing up this issue.

greetings from an internet cafe in Germany. Just checking in. Are we on track?:D

I believe Jerry will start forging the blade today.
Chuck Ward will be there too.
Good job on the steel.

He's here now taking some warm up shots.
I am taking a break so that I could print off the drawing that I may forge as close as possible.
Thanks for the steel Joe.
We are putting the taters in a sack now.

I have tyhe blades! Jerry did an awesome job forging. Forged close to final shape, and will require minimal grinding.

Dan

Would it be possible to take some photos of this knife along the way, or is the look of the knife to be kept a secret until it is completed?

After receiving the remainder of the pledged contributions we should have ample funds to pay all expenses associated with the production of the Bowie, promotion and set-up cost for the raffle.
Stephen, Roger and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Fund.
Forum Members, please start saving your money for raffle tickets as it's a great Bowie you have designed and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is counting on us.
