Announcement: The BladeForums Charity Bowie.

The Blade Forums Bowie continues to progress nicely as we are a little over a month into it.
Dan will send the blade (W2) to Russ Andrews tomorrow to start the guard and handle then on the Burt Foster for final blade finish, sharpen and sheath.

The tang work is finished, and the preliminary
guard fitting is completed.
The blade is now on its way to Burt for marking,
and measuring for the sheath.

I am delighted to here that my Hanson steel brick did not end up being a dud!:D This may have been mentioned before, but I'll say it again. What do you fellow knifemangling guys think about anyone who so chooses trying to make their own interpretation of the Forum Bowie to show off at Blade? :D

IMO, it would work against what we (BF Custom Forum) as a group set out to accomplish.

Hmmm.......I never thought that anything I might make would dilute the potential pool of ticket buyers for the real forum knife. But then again, in my case, there are two important factors that led me to this conclusion.
1. I will not have a table at Blade.....and
2. I SUCK at knifemaking.....lol:p :D
Just out of curiosity, I would be interested to know how the Reno tickets sales went this year since both knives were made by active smiths that were selling at the show,as opposed to '05 when one of the knives was a Moran.

Photos just in from Russ. Outstanding blade. Very nice hamon and the makers mark is sweet. Thanks Jerry, Dan, Burt and Russ.

Nice profile, crisp lines, Hamon

The completed Bowie is nothing short of spectacular and will make a most impressive addition to any custom Bowie collection.

The nine member BladeForums Bowie project team has worked to finalize many of the details for offering this Bowie for the benefit of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The preliminary details are as follows:

  • The BF Bowie will be offered utilizing a Raffle Drawing.
  • Raffle Tickets will be offered for sale @ $20.00 each or 3 tickets for $50.00 There will be several convenient methods to purchase raffle tickets including an on-line option utilizing PayPal.

  • The Bowie will be displayed and available for inspection at the 2007 Blade Show in Atlanta on Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 8, 9 and 10th. The Blade show will also be the official kick-off for raffle ticket sales, however tickets may be available for purchase prior to the Show.

  • The Drawing for the Bowie will be held @ Jerry Fisk's Micro Show on Saturday October 19th. in Nashville Arkansas. You need not be present to win. The contribution amount to be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation will be communicated and presented soon after the drawing.
  • All BladeForums members who previously contributed to the project will receive raffle tickets equal in dollar value to their contribution.
  • The BF Bowie Project Team and members or their families are not eligible to win.

We will forward further details as they become available via this thread.

Please e-mail, pm or post any questions below.

We thank you in advance for supporting this very worthy charitable project.

Kevin, will there be a limited number of tickets? If so, what will the number be limited to?

Good question Keith.
There is NO limit to the amount of tickets offered.
Our goal is to sell as many tickets and raise as much money for the charity as possible.
However having said that we did set the ticket price @ $20 rather than say $5 or $10; one to have fewer tickets and increase chances per and two; this is a substantial Bowie made by four of the best Bowie makers in the world and it's well worth a $20 or more IMO per chance to obtain this highly collectable Bowie.

The draw will be held on the 19th of October, but when will be the closing date for being able to purchase tickets?

As we will have an on-line or website solution for purchasing tickets. You should be able to purchase ticket up to the day before if not the same day of the drawing. The real specific details will be finialized as we get our processes fine tuned.

Folks, I gotta tell you, this is some impressive project. Wow is the best word that I can think of right now.

Hey Kevin.........this is the first time I have seen a knife on a signature card for a bank account. What kind of ID did it have to show?:D Did you have to open the account for legal reasons or are you just that anal? :p :D
