I've been mostly offline the last couple weeks for the holidays, but I caught D DGladden 's excellent thread about his 110 that Buck fixed up. As it happens, I recently picked up a 111 that could use more help than I can give. I don't think this'll sharpen out. It looks like a prior owner used just about every possible surface of the knife to whack on something. At some point, I wonder if Tony ever thought of getting a hammer and slipping his knife back into his pocket. Because, of course, the sheath is gone.

Anyway, aside from the obvious damage, there's a lot to like about this knife. It's my first 111 Classic, and I was surprised to see Buck's name engraved in script lettering near the back pins. Tony's name has some nice engraving as well.

I can't say Cat the Cat was pleased that I used the scratching post to take photos, but we survived.

Ouch that one has seen some better days. I don't think I have any 111 blades hiding anywhere but should be able to re-blade it with a 110. It is difficult to remove the engraving in that area without with out taking off to much material on the scroll work. Please put Attn: Forum on the outside of the package so it will come straight to me and I can take a closer look. It also looks like the main pivot pin might be popped and the scales are bent outward. This might be a challenge. We can discuss the steps moving forward once I have it here. Please also fill out the warranty repair form to send with the 111 so I have good contact information.

Wow! Thanks! The engraving looks like it was done by someone with quite a bit more skill and care than Tony. I don't mind it at all. (I wonder if it was a gift for a someone who didn't value it. Or maybe Tony was actually a wonderful man who took care of his horses and dogs, but got his knife lifted by a neighbor kid. I have so many questions.)

"Tony's an idiot".
Actually, that seems the most likely.

I think Post Offices are closed today for the Day of Mourning, so I'll drop this in the mail tomorrow.

They did one for me and it got a 110 blade. The name is tricky. The banner has a texture to it, so I just kind of blurred it out. It came out good enough.

I love the rescues of old, mostly destroyed Buck 110s and 112s! I'm still using my success story (the "packrat" two dot 112).

I haven't found any lonesome, abused Buck orphans in need of spa/refurb lately.

It’s tough to get them cheap enough to bother. I’ve sent in 2 groups. The first above was sentimental.

The second group was because I had a special one with a broken blade. I waited until I accumulated I think 5 beaters. To send in all at once.

I made sure in the end I wasn’t paying over the current list price. You also have to allow for a new sheath.

At the time I was accused of abusing Bucks generous offer to reblade them. But sending in a group saved me and Buck on shipping charges. So I don’t feel guilty.

The reality at the time was I wanted Macassar ebony handles on them. Before they made the deal with the guitar company.IMG_1211.jpeg

The one in the middle is the special one. Someone broke the blade on it when it was new. It otherwise was cherry.

A nickel silver 110 with Macassar ebony is not easy to find. I think I have $30 invested in it.

At least I think its ebony, it looks different than my others. If anyone knows what wood was used on them I would love to know.

BTW. All of the knives I sent for new blades came back in awesome shape. Great job by Buck.

I sent a 111 in a couple of months back for a reblade and the said they couldn’t do it so sent it back in the same condition.

“111- CANNOT REBLADE DUE OT HANDLE- DISCONTINUED”

Since Buck wouldn’t do it, anyone else doing them? I’d have no issue paying a fair price.

Was it the fancy aluminum one?

Buck Knives Inc. Buck Knives Inc.

Doesn’t hurt to ask again. They rebladed one for me. But with a 110 blade.

The rep from Buck will see this next time he logs onto the site. Hopefully he can hook you up. In post 5 he says he can do one. They did one for me, maybe ten years ago? A 110 blade should work fine. It won’t have the fancy script logo.

Unlike a standard 110 replacing the blade on a 111 Classic can be much more difficult. Since we can not sand the head of the pivot pin to remove it without removing the scroll work it has to be cut between the blade and bolster. This stress can cause the aluminum to crack or break. Since we do not have any remaining handles it would leave the knife in pieces. We normally would offer you a discount on a replacement knife or a replacement of our choosing. Was this offered to you?
