Just wanted to let people know that the ZT 0801 is now being counterfeited. And from the looks of it they are identical to the ZT0801. They have even made counterfeit blue carrier thrust bearings like used it the genuine knife. I have not seen the knife in hand but if the pictures and the recent clones that I have seen are any indicator these are going to fool people. Serial number 0546 is currently what is being duplicated so if you see this pop up for sale it will be a counterfeit.

EDITED TO ADD: They are also cloning #0569 in black.

That's not good. I don't usually buy used knives, but this certainly doesn't make me want to buy more.

This isn't the first counterfeit that's practically indistinguishable from the original and it won't be the last. The only way to be sure you're not buying a counterfeit is to purchase knives from authorized, well-respected dealers . . . preferably those that have established relationships with BF. The bad guys may be out there, but the good guys are out there too.

Lets see some pics and see if we can spot the fake.I bet if you disassemble the knife then you could easily distinguish the fake.

Ok just saw some pics, this does look EXACT. I don't own an original, but these would fool me if I saw them at a gunshow or something.

Perfect advise. You will not get a fake if you buy from an authorized dealer, and the list of those is long....

...and I will add that it be a brick and mortar store with a prominent online presence. These folks who buy from eBay, especially when the knife comes from outside the US are just begging to get ripped off.

Unless someone buys a knife from the dealer, and then return a fake one.

A little paranoid? Yes, but it could happen. Unless the dealer is really good at spotting fakes.

I've seen this happen with large retailers (big river site and cabelas, literally spotted a fake PM2 that was a return at the knife counter) but I have not heard of it from a dedicated knife shop like those that support BFC. It doesn't mean it cant happen but I would say it is the situation where you are most unlikely to get a fake.

If the images above are fake, the copy cats did a great job. Now I wonder if the fakes work as well as the real deal on a scale where quality can be measured.

Hmmm....

If the copy is built the same as the original....

And they are really made of Elmax.....

Then, haven't they made a Zero Tolerance knife?

I suppose it's not quite that simple, since the place where these things get built doesn't adhere to the AISI standard.

Their "Elmax" could contain sawdust, for all we know......

Another reason not to buy chinese.

Before you dump eveything Chinese, think about the fact that the BIG THREE AUTO MAKERS, and the rest of the Auto & Truck makers, Worldwide buy parts from China. Ifi removed from your wheels, they will not run.

I'm talking knives and other things we have more of a choice. It's no mystery who's making these and their own designs.

I could only imagine that if someone is going through the trouble of reverse engineering a high-end knife they are doing it to turn a substantial profit, and not using expensive-to-process materials such as elmax, high grade aluminum, titanium, etc. I bet the bearings are even of lesser grade steel. There is an industry of people(especially in china) reverse engineering garbage disguised as the real quality items. Would be interesting to do a material analysis on the blade.

Even though these say elmax on the blade they arent being sold as such. They clone things. And so no matter what they make it from they usually tell you exactly what that is despite the markings. The materials are actually usually pretty good. There are so many sources for Titanium and other materials. And china now has access to many high grade materials. Some have analyzed some of these knives and in those cases they are exactly what they say they are.
