Another counterfeit warning. Watch out for ZT0801 Serial# 0546

If you have home depot near you they sell a really nice all in one torx driver that surprisingly is made well and is properly sized (rare for cheap torx) for $5 or $6. At least that way if you do sell it you can sell it properly adjusted.
It's odd you mention that. I bought one yesterday for my Leathermans. It was 4.49 and the only one they had.

I didn't realize me ZT566 needed Allen heads. The torx bits worked enough to move the clip but I was scared to death of stripping it out.

Are you sure your 566 isnt torx? Usually its a sizt T8 torx but a many times a T9 will also fit. Allens will fit many times but I havent seen them use an actual Allen screw head in forever.

It seems that all the scale and spacers are torx. But I don't own a single torx bit that will fit in the clip bolts. My neighbor even has a snapon set and I couldn't find one that fit.

Clip screws on all my ZT's and Kershaw's are t6. If you happen to strip one warranty will send out replacements.

I will see if I can get some really close up pictures when I get home.

Is it stock? IE is the clip and screws the originals that came with the knife? I would have said before you don't have a fake since the 0566 is so new but with what is in this thread, who knows......

Well it was ordered off Amazon from ZT.

The easiest difference to notice is that the serial number is in the wrong place:

Unless there were fakes made in 2013, then ZT must have misplaced the serial number on the one in post #87 here

Notice on the fake that the clip screw holes are chamfered where on the genuine they are not.

Zero tolerance has used both locations for its serial number on the 0801. You will find genuine 0801s with the serial number either location. The fakes were simply replicated from a knife that in fact had its serial number in that location. Here is my genuine 0801 before it was sold. I had two or three of these and all had the serial number in that location.

I am not arguing that, I was pointing that out to a member who thought that it is a feature of the fakes.
For me the font is the easiest to spot as a difference.

Actually, the clip screw holes are chamfered on the original as well. It is hard to see it in the pics posted earlier in this thread by others, because, on the original, the chamfering is hidden in the shadow.

I have been contemplating picking up one of these. I'll just go through kershawguy.

But, I generally do not buy off Ebah...did with some Spyderco sprints that were just released by Spyderco, so no chance for a counterfeit that early in production.

Probably the Chinese guy who owns and used it for the counterfeits.

That is exactly right. clones that are really off are usually based on a picture and details usually get lost in translation. The reason why clones and counterfeits are getting so spot on is because they are reverse engineering them directly from legit examples. Occasionally they are able to get cad files or pics of parts in progress which is why you may see a counterfeit out before the actual legit product is.

To view fakes: 1. Google china knives. 2. Open first page hits from #1. 3. Drop "Zero Tolerance" into search box for each China vendor and hit go.

You will see a great many ZT fakes.

Use the same procedure to see other brand fakes, like Chris Reeve or LionSteel. Buyer beware.
