Another dagger?!?!

Not sure I am crazy about the tapered butt. But it is unusual and that sometimes yields surprising results. Let's see where you take it.

Still in very rough form and in need of a WHOLE lot of refinement, but this is basically where the project is heading...

Looking good!

One thing though, can you take your pictures with tip into the light? That shadow on the underside of the knife obscures the sense of the shape for me.

Looking good so far. Will you slim the handle more yet? Stll looks a bit chunky in the middle to me.
I really like what you've done with the pommel end.
Darcy:)

Thanks. I may have to slim the handle down just a shade, but it will barely be noticeable. It fits the hand quite well right now, and is well balanced with the pommel in place. Center of gravity is right behind the guard.

Greg, I like the pommel. I like this design over the first one. I agree that the handle right below the guard looks a bit big still.

I think its beautiful but I do agree on the sliming the handle part. Personally Id try to get the handle to be no wider then the blade. Thats just me tho. I think the gaurd does enough to make it look wide enough no reason for the handle to add to the effect.

I spent some time last night sanding the handle again. I took a little of the chunkiness away, but the main point in that exercise was to remove the butcher block conditioner and get the handle to the point where I could see what it will look like in a final state. I also spent some time refining the pommel. There are still a few places on the pommel that need attention, but on the whole it is coming together more quickly than I imagined.

I expect to have final assembly done on this by this weekend.

Okay, I'm done with the handle now. Sanded the wood and the metal to 1200 grit, and now the chatoyance of the wood pops and the metal shines. I'll probably take the pommel to 2000 grit just because ... but it really won't change much. All that remains now is to take the guard to 2000 grit, then sharpen the blade and go to final assembly.

Neato. I'm jealous of you for how easily you changed direction during the handle phase. I'm like a volcano. Its been nice reading about your process. Thanks.

I got inspired to move forward today, so all the pre-assembly tasks have been completed. The guard and pommel are now sanded to 2000 grit. The blade has been sharpened. So here's the last pre-assembly picture. I know some of you will say the handle is still too wide, but what you may not be aware of is that it is half as thick as it is wide... it's only 0.75 inch thick, and 1.5" wide at the widest point. This gives a very comfortable grip for my medium sized hands. Anyone with large hands would say the handle was too small.

Looks great.......flows really well now. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics.
Darcy:)

I, too, like the way it flows from end to end. You've done a tremendous amount of work and the finished product will really reflect it!

I did the final assembly and glue up last night. It went without a hitch. I don't have adequate lighting to take good pictures yet, but I do have a couple of mediocre pictures.
