I just said in another thread how no one ever starts a thread like this...so I will. :)

Since I started carrying knives with clips, I have never lost one.
Not...a...single...knife.

In the past I lost about 10 traditionals (clipless, of course).

So yeah, I think the vast majority of us who carry knives with clips aren't losing them, and that the perception of some folks who think clips cause loss are being influenced by the fact that people who HAVE lost a knife will complain about it a whole bunch, making it seem like a prevalent problem.

While I've never carried a knife clipless, I completely understand your perspective. The most secure feeling item in my pockets is whichever knife I have clipped in one at any given time. The worst I've done is scratch a clip by running into something; I've never come close to snagging one by a clip and losing it. At that, I'm fortunate enough to have never lost a knife :)

I've never lost a knife that was clipped to my pocket. I keep the clips tight and don't smooth out the G10 under the contact point. I have lost knives before, but it's usually been from moving or changing duty stations when I was in the Marine Corps.

I didn't loose clipped knife yet. May be I am lucky. Only once I lost a knife, Orange Ladybug, around this time of the year, 6-7 years ago. Guess what, I found it last week:)
My son compensate this. He lost at least half of dozen. Some Spydernuts would be jealous of people who find these knives.

Yup, been carrying the same Shallot clipped in the RFP since 09.
I think it has a lot to do with pocket style.
I'll bet the majority are lost from slanted pockets vs jean type pockets.?

I've only bent/broke clips before by snagging them; never resulted in a lost knife though... (Thank goodness!)

I did snag the clip on my kershaw volt all the way perpendicular to the handle, I thought it was a goner.

Removed and heat it while bending it back and it ended up better than before as it was a tighter fit.

Good thing it's a Ti clip so it's more ductile than steel.

Slight flaw in the poll. You can't lose a knife due its having a clip if you don't carry your knives clipped. So obviously your poll excludes everyone who doesn't carry their knives clipped.

Oops! ;)

I voted for a loss.
I had the pictured Stretch clipped and lost it this past summer.
Carbon fiber clips suck.

Never lost one clipped. On numerous occasions have had traditionals fall out of my pocket when sitting. My father also lost a traditional near and dear to him due to a hole in his pocket he didn't know was there but fortunately found it.

I heard though I'm hormonal for not liking losing things and having extra space in my pocket.

There doesn't seem to be an option to edit the poll...

However, all who wish to self-identify as oddball non-clip carriers can post that fact, and I will count how many there are. :D

I voted "no". I have added a lanyard to my clipped folder when going deeper in to the woods but it's just a precaution, I've never actually needed it.

I must add that I've never lost a knife that was carried loose in pocket neither in the 30+ years I've been carrying one though.

I've lost a clipped folder. I'm 99.9% sure it snagged on a seat bet and fell out at the gas station. I rushed back when i discovered the loss and asked the cashier..nope. It just happens, i guess. I also found a couple clipped knives myself, a CCC that isn't worth a description and a Kershaw Blackout. I've become one of those people that "watches the ground" for stuff. lol.

I once lost a $1000 large tactical folder because the maker put a thin wire artsy type clip on it. I noticed it was starting to bend, figured I'd fix it when I got home. When I got home the knife was gone. I'm still pretty pissed about that one.

Well I'm sure I'm not the only one, and I wasn't about to go crying to you guys about it, but since this thread is here, I lost my fist dragonfly while I was clipped, partly my fault, partly the fact that those wire clips bend much easier than other styles, first it snagged on something while I was walking at work and stopped me in my tracks (I'm a UPS driver) then, at the end of the day, it was gone.

I think it lost tension first then something snagged it and I didn't even feel it, I upgraded from black FRN to orange FRN because of the loss and the thought that maybe I would have seen it if it was orange. Now I just drop the dragonfly in the bottom of my pocket, not worth losing another.

Edit: I cannot afford to check my pockets every time when I get up and down in my truck 100-300 times a day.

Anyone else carrying with a clip just pat their knife pocket? :p

I do this probably a couple dozen times a day. I load my pockets with all sorts of gadgets, so whenever I leave or arrive somewhere, I do a quick pocket check to make sure I haven't left, forgotten, or lost anything.

This is a valuable point, along with the earlier carbon fiber clip -- type of clip plays a significant role. Some have much better retention, also due to handle material, and designs that don't lend to snagging.
