The only knives that I have lost (and luckily found both later) are the clipless Peanut and Sm Barlow. Never lost a clipped on knife.

Never lost a clipped knife. When I want to carry my peanut or Buck stockman I go get them from under the couch cushion.

Yep, the Northwoods Burnside Jack my wife got me gets rescued out of the recliner with regularity (nice knife though).

Of course, this thread may have brought down the wrath of karma upon me...hopefully I don't start losing clipped knives now!

I had a spyderco delica that was lost for several days, while cutting trees down in the woods it must have snagged on sappling branches and came out of my pocket. Lucky for me it was orange and my wife found it in the snow a few days after I lost it. Wading through deep snow in the woods with a knife clipped to my overalls has made more than one knife come out my pocket but I usually feel it and pick it up.

I recently lost a knife while I thought that it was clipped to my pocket. Funny thing is I don't know where it was clipped! Sometimes when doing yard work I clip my folder on to the sheath of my Seal Knife because I have the SOG on my belt over where my folder would be clipped in my pocket. Picture as example. Anyway, I don't know where I had the Utilitac II before I lost it! The clip isn't the reason I lost the knife. It was my stupidity, haste, and lack of attention. So my point is to keep track of your stuff, don't bang into things, tighten your clip. You will be less likely to lose your stuff. Sometimes easier said than done! Me as an example! Utilitac II did fine in the yard with rain and frost for a week though.

I do this probably a couple dozen times a day. I load my pockets with all sorts of gadgets, so whenever I leave or arrive somewhere, I do a quick pocket check to make sure I haven't left, forgotten, or lost anything.
I know exactly what you mean. I too am guilty of having exploding pockets full of extremely valuable things (to me)
On any given day, I'll have a nice chunk of money worth of knives/gear in my pockets, and If I lost any one, I'd be devastated. I have no business buying, owning or carrying such valuable things, so a loss would really hurt bad.
I'm in and out of the truck so much, I think a couple dozen pocket checks is a minimum!

Those pocket sheaths are must have for not having your traditional squirt out of your pocket:eek:

Yep, I'm glad the Northwoods knives come with one.
It still falls into the recliner though, but at least it didn't fall out of my pocket in the woods.

While I have never lost a knife with a clip or because of the clip I have had a clip catch on things and have it come out of my pocket. Usually always in my car. So technically never lost but still it can present a problem. The worst offenders are always clips with a light tension and an aggressive angle at the end to catch on random crap.

I'm famous for setting my knives on my lap while driving, quickly hopping out if the car, and bam, smashes into the pavement. I'm afraid one day I'll be over grass and no hear it hit. But even still, this act of stupidity has left some knives with a few character marks.
Nothing like slamming a brand new knife into the ground just because you wanted to fondle it while driving.

While it never caught on stuff for me, the angle at the end of the Umnumzaan clip created a horrid hot-spot for my hand.
So I bent it down, and now it's all good. :)

I don't like light tension clips either...why have a clip if it isn't going to hold?

I can lose a knife in a knife store. I dropped more from helicopters than any American soldier in history and I continue doing it. :(

Are they getting caught on stuff?
Hard to find a knife after it falls from a helicopter. :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm surprised on occasions when I total the value of all that I pocket, but I can't think of anything I'd remove from my EDC. Rather, I seem to keep adding to it... At that, I'll continue to do my pocket checks!

That's all me, buddy. Every time I get in or out of my car, whenever I get up or sit down, basically any time I'm going somewhere or about to do something.

We must look a little odd haha.

Precisely! I've found that some of my favorite clips are actually rather small ones. I just got a Brous VR-71, and in pictures, the clip seemed way too small for the knife. In hand and pocket, it now makes perfect sense. The clip is tight enough to never come loose, and small/well-shaped so as to not snag on anything. Plus, it doesn't interfere with the ergonomics of the handle design.

I always wanted to start a thread asking the value of your EDC, but I figured I'd come off boastful. Maybe we can do both extremes.
Expensive carry, and super economy carry.

I can pat my pockets and find well over 2 grand on some occasions.
