I lost my Delica awhile back (I'd had it for a long time).
The plastic clip had lost it's original tension, got snagged on some brush and pulled out unbeknownst to me.
I miss the hades out of that knife...

The one knife I've lost was a damascus Case Wharncliffe Trapper. Fell out of my slacks during a workday. Still upset about that.

ive had one catch on a seatbelt a time or two, but never lost a knife with a clip...but when wearing cargo pants ive had a few SAKs fall out when sitting down a couple times and lost 2 of them. after losing an alox Farmer this summer I recently decided to send my favorite black Pioneer to a fella on bookface to have a pocketclip put on it, torx screws for disassembly and stonewash the blade/tools.

I left a Rat 2 on the table is a restaurant one day. Didn't realize it until 2 days later. Nobody turned it in. Waiter must have thought it was part of the tip. :grumpy:

I lost a Gerber paraframe and SAK. I don't even know if they fell out of my pocket or got misplaced though so I can't really blame the clip or lack thereof.
The Gerber was probably lost when I was mowing lawns or doing other work outside. I carried my Kershaw Storm II most days for about six years and still have it.

I've only lost one knife with a clip; an early Calypso. Probably got caught on my seatbelt (I'd had it catch the seatbelt before but always before heard or felt it drop.).

I've only lost one clipless from pocket carry, an Old Timer medium stockman from the early 80's. No idea where that one went, but it often slipped out of my front pocket when I undressed or sat in one of those overstuffed recliners or sofas. Too bad since it was a very good knife which happily I'd carried for years.

I use a clipped knife now (Spyderco Kiwi 4) and to reduce the likelihood I'll catch it on something when I reach in to grab something in my pocket it goes in the pocket I use least, the front left (even though I'm right-handed).

I've only lost 2 knives both saks. One I have no idea how or where. the other fell out of the pen pocket of my coveralls at work and went down the toilet right as it flushed. It's a shame too because that was a sweet way to carry that knife, if you just left a little bit of lanyard sticking out

Well, yes and no. I almost lost my 0801 when I put a bag of used kitty litter into the garbage can. The bag snagged the knife right out of my pocket, and into the garbage can it went. I didn't notice until a couple of hours later that it was missing, and boy, did I freak. It took me a bit to figure it out. So, I lost it, but only temporarily.

The one that I did lose permanently was because it was clipped in my notepad/portfolio on a business trip and forgot to take it out and put it in my checked luggage before I got to the airport. At least I have a duplicate Kershaw 1431 G10 Wild Wild Turkey...

There doesn't seem to be an option to edit the poll...

However, all who wish to self-identify as oddball non-clip carriers can post that fact, and I will count how many there are. :D

I would bet that out of everyone who caries a knife, most people don't carry with a clip. This is every knife user i'm talking about, not just blade forum users. I've actually never seen anyone with a clipped knife before in public. Countless victorinox's and opinels and slip joints though.

Also, how do you loose so many non clipped knives? Wear pants that fit you sir.

The word is lose. ;)

It started back when I was a child; knives fall out of pockets when you're upside down.
I'm not the world's most active guy, but over the decades I have been active enough for Swiss Army Knives and other non-clip knives to go the way of the Dodo (bird that is...not the knife which has a clip).

I hate belt pouches, so clips are the way to keep my knives in my possession while pursuing a semi-active life.

I've seen plenty enough, certainly equal to or in excess of the slip-joint crowd.
Look around...you'll see it.

I get my wedding ring caught on stuff more often than my knives. I don't really clip carry that often--only if I don't have pockets which is rare. I prefer a deep pocket carry in most cases. I did slide my clip down the side of my work truck on accident a couple weeks back....wasn't stoked about that. Lightly scratched the clip and loosened it up a little but I tightened it back down...did more damage to the truck than anything. I decided to go back to pocket carry after that because I am in and out of my truck a lot and in nice back yards with tight spaces occasionally. If I were out on the range or doing something physical I'd clip for sure though...pockets can't always be trusted but a good sturdy clip pretty much always can.

I've had a few very close calls with clips snagging on jackets / untucked shirts but have been lucky so far and have not lost a clipped knife...I did find my mini Grip hanging from my shirt once; fortunately I caught it before it fell off. Without thinking back too far I count two slipjoints lost, both after successful fishing outings, and both after cleaning fish as the sun went down. I blame the fish, and hopefully some lucky soul found the knives and is still getting good use out of them.

Carrying a knife in the city I live near is very illegal, and New Jersey knife laws are very restrictive to begin with, so despite having 1/4 the population of all of Canada, all living in a much closer proximity, I have never seen someone pull out a knife with a clip, or seen someone with a knife clipped to their pocket. And it's not that I don't see people with knives, just with knives that don't have a clip. As a vast majority of Americans live in an urban environment (which tend to have restrictive knife laws), it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume it's not just applicable to where I live.

Also, let's just say the previously mentioned typo was a pun.

Get it? Loose... Wear pants that fit?

If I wore pants that were tighter, I'd be into a 80's hair metal or Emo look.

If you suggested zippered or Velcro closing pockets, that would work...but I'd look rather silly.

In a place with restrictive laws, then yeah, hiding it becomes necessary.
Glad I don't live in such a place...our cities and universities don't seem to care much about knives. :)

That's a bummer! It's funny but in CA the knife laws aren't terribly restrictive. I could belt carry a fixed blade and I carry a 3" folder everywhere I go--out to dinner, out to the bar etc. I haven't ever had an issue with the police or anybody questioning it. Same with gun rights out here--half want NO GUN RIGHTS and half want ALL GUN RIGHTS. So we have restrictive CC laws but pretty lax personal ownership laws. Also have the death penalty--even though it usually takes 50 years to enforce--why Charles Manson is about to marry a 22 year old girl instead of having been euthenized 30 years ago. This state's so confused!

I've never lost a clipped knife.

I misplace knives, but seldom loose them. I have about a dozen that should be around the house that I don't have a clue where they are. Wouldn't have made much difference whether they had a clip or not.

Haven't lost a clipped knife yet. I have, however, had a Kershaw Knockout lifted right out of my pocket and onto the ground by jumping off a forklift. I've also bent a Manix 2 clip jumping onto one. Stand up lifts and being in a rush don't mix well with the RFP.

Do you perhaps think you not seeing a person with a clipped knife might have something to do with your restrictive laws. It might not have anything to do with whether it is an effective means of carrying a knife. Just a thought.

At Wegmans today I saw 4 to 5 clips.

I thought I lost my ZT 566 once. Was freaking out. Ended up finding it in the back of my wife's SUV. All I can come up with is earlier in the day I put our stroller in there and it must've snagged the knife and pulled it out of my pocket and I never noticed.

At the same time, I took the same knife on a weekend camping trip for a bachelor party and never once worried about it. Dove on the ground several times playing some Frisbee drinking game. Wore it canoeing and did some rope swing, dove out of the canoe, tipped it a couple times. Knife stayed put the whole time.

Sadly I voted yes. I lost a Strider/Buck folder a long time ago when it got hung up on a Carnival ride. I didn't even know it was gone until about an hour later.
