Another Empty Your Pockets Thread

I'd probably get in a little trouble if my boss saw my IBBB on my hip, but it comes in handy when cutting beefy plants, especially if I forgot my clippers. I get funny looks using it sometimes, but I just carry on like all is normal (cuz it is). Every once in a while you'll get a "nice knife" from a random person, but I've never been bothered even up here in MA.

GB, my pocket dump was while sitting in the truck on a busy Boston street at lunchtime. I think you should be good :D

Well you asked for it!

Hi there! I saw a member posting on the "Recent Additions" thread he just got a Spanish Slipjoint, a "Pallares" brand pocket knife.

I must say I have and use them a lot, since they are handmade a few miles from where I live. I love 'em. The older one of these three (uess which one it is?) is riding in my pocket today side to side with my locking folder and mini multitools.

Great classic Spanish navajas, these Pallares. They remind me a lot of my good old Opinels, which I also EDC a lot!

I've got a pallares just like that. I loved the knife but I found the blade wobbled from side to side too much. Does yours do that?

Did ya try smacking them rivets a little bit to tighten it up some? Looks like it would work.

Good looking knife, kind of appealing.

I put the knife on a table and hit the rivet with a hammer. Made no difference. I tried using more force to the point where I was worried it'd break the dang thing but to no avail.

And let me add that the blade on this knife is beautifully crafted. It has a convex edge with no secondary bevel. It feels handcrafted rather than machine made. As far as aestetics goes it's a great knife for the price. But I went back to my Solingen made Mercator. It might not be pretty but it's made with cruel and merciless German precision.

Haha "cruel and merciless German precision"...I almost pissed myself!
Yeah, some of them have this problem. I haven't found an easy fix for that, and more expensive and complex solutions have been usually discarded due to how cheap they are here. The basic ones cost the equivalent to $4-6 here, so if it has a problem, we just live with it.

Opinels and Higonokamis tend to be more a hit than a miss, and they have less defects in general (at least in my experience) but that's part of the lovely aspect of these cheap, traditional slipjoints and blades, I think.

Sorry to be so unhelpful!

Silly me, I plumb forgot those are folders, thought they was fixed.

Like the look as a fixed blade, don't sing to me as a folder. But that's just me and my silly ways.

Actually you've been very helpful. I was hesitant to buy another pallares because maybe they're all poorly made. But it sounds like I just got a mistake.

I've got a higonokami, which I don't use because I found the edge to be so hard that it's brittle. I cut a steak on a ceramic plate and when the edge accidentally hit the plate it chipped.

I've got an Opinel and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. Great blade that's been well assembled. My wife uses one for peeling apples for my daughter. I just don't like the way it sits in my back pocket. The Mercator is a piece of folded metal like a higonokami or a douk douk. You can sit on it all day without feeling it. I'd prefer the pallares of the blade didn't wobble as the blade shape is more useful and it'd be just as comfortable to sit on

I prefer Spydercos, but I've been carrying the Kershaw Cryo 2 at work, because of the low-ride clip and smooth scales.

I just picked up a Titaner "toothpick" from Blade HQ. It's on sale for an incredible $10 right now. Invisible on a keychain, and weighs almost nothing.

I really, really want to find a job outside MD. If anyone needs a logistics guy with a secret security clearance, customer care background, and a BA and MAT, let me know!

Damn, John. That's a sweet sticker! Incredible price for sure. Might have to check one out.

Edit to add: I'm weak. I just ordered a Titaner. Seems right up my alley, and looks pretty sweet for $10.

Here's mine minus my cell phone. I have a CRKT Obake, a Kershaw-Emerson CQC-7K, and a Keating Stinger, as well as a Maxpedition Spartan wallet, and my keys. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active in an Otter Box.

I gave one to my girl as an early Christmas present, and was delighted she was very happy to get it. She says it's a bodkin, and she knows how to use one. :)

She then went on to explain that puncturing a blood vessel was actually more effective than outright cutting it, because if cut, the vessel tends to retract and seal itself.

I'd hang onto that girl, John...or at the very least don't tick her off;)

I like my women dangerous to others and sweet to me. We actually just need to find a very rich businessperson to hire us both: bodyguard, assistant, house manager, interpreter, and analyst functions all covered by just two people willing to travel anywhere.

So, I will admit that I DID take the gas receipts and the Kleenex (new and used) and the cash/Drivers license/credit card that are rubber banded together out of the picture. OH, And not to forget that I also have my cane...I carry a basic Cold Steel sword cane. A very sturdy 24" blade with an 8" handle that mimics a slightly undersized Katana that I am lets just say "familiar" with :D

Otherwise this is what I carry most days lately, keep in mind women's pockets really aren't meant for carrying stuff. So this load makes me clank like an old Tinker's cart when I walk LOL.

Rossi .357 (The old Interarms version pre-Taurus messing them up) in a shoulder holster, yes I know I HATE that it isn't leather, but I am dealing with it until I can swap back to my regular carry.

2 speed loaders in a carry pouch on my belt.

Small LED flashlight

Opinel No6

32 gb tiny USB drive

Permanent match, basically a flask of lighter fluid with a wick that has a steel flap in it that strikes against the stone on the side of the flask.

Defense Pen

2 Zip ties, They make a great thumb cuff in a pinch if I have to cuff more that 1 person
Handcuffs & Keys

IBBB or JW Scorpion depending on the expectations of the day on my belt if I think I can get away with it here in Libbie-Fornia North. Otherwise known as Washington near Seattle area.

And to believe I found it amusing when I noticed that half of the items from my pockets and belt are weapons. Seeing what you carry Shavru makes me feel underarmed.
