Another new GEC pattern - 65 Ben Hogan

I liked this one straight off

... but I dunno now. Looks a bit of a dog's dinner

Mind, I feel the same about the dogleg jack too, and the mink skinner

Still, there's plenty of others to like in the GEC stable

If any of you have my early book "Tidioute: A Town With an Edge", there is a section about Mr. Hogan and his lady friend Kate. I hope GEC does a female version, it would make a nice set. The story of this guy is so interesting. The town of Tidioute use to have a celebration day in their honor. She once shot an intruder and was acquitted due to her well know ways.

All northfields are magnificent with longpulls and caps, however I like lesser "fancy", yet very stylish Tidioute Ebony on this... I blaim my forum knife 2010 for my ebony obsession... :D

I too like the extras the Northfields come with, but on the snakewood examples of these I've seen they lack the typical snake pattern which is the only reason I'd pay a premium for one. Makes me wish an ebony N'field version was available.

these patterns have been slow to get to all of us due to the deep snow in much of the country. deep snow in minnesota & canada are'nt anything new & these cities have the equipment to handle the weather. many of us ca'nt respond to crazy weather vagracies, so many knives are sitting in fed-ex & post offices. in austin the little sleet & 1 in. of snow caused over 300 crashes on friday. i admit much of this is because austinites ca'nt drive but the weather has certainly affected product delivery immensely.--dennis. i would'nt be surprised if my order was 3 weeks getting here instead of 3 days.

That's probably due to the fact that your GEC order is so damn big that they had to commandeer an entire 18-wheeler for it.

Hey Dennis!!!! You ought to make that picture Rick just posted your screensaver.

rick you should talk, i only order gecs so it seems like i'm ordering lots of knives. you guys order case , schratt & morgan, queen, mooremaker & a ton of others. rick has some fantastic old remingtons that are so valuable that he hardly shows them.regardless of what anyone is doing , nothing beats the oldies for value. besides no custom maker to my knowledge has ever done the old crocus polish . i have a buddy & he ordered about 8 or 9 gecs just this week so i'm really small potatoes. rick also spit-shines his knives in the pics so they look like T- BONES TO A STARVING DOG. LOVE YOU GUYS,--DENNIS

That's one vehicle worth hi-jacking:D

Would like to see some pix of this 65 though. These snow delays etc world wide weather is certainly strange lately.

Thanks for the kind words, Dennis, but I remain droolingly envious of your wonderful GEC collection. I think future generations will regard those knives with the same veneration that we feel toward the old pre-WWII factory classics (assuming they even know what a knife looks like in the future :().

Keep those pics coming, my friend.

Hang on - lemme get my ski mask...

i agree with black mamba on the barehead of the gec ebony. these gives you a longer handle & we all know that ebony is very unlikely to crack if dropped. i hope to show some pics this week but the snow has held my order up forever. i think my future orders will wait till april.--dennis

I'm really digging GEC ebony and this pattern looked too nice to pass on. I ordered Monday morning and it was here in 48 hrs -thanks, Greg!:thumbup:

Lighting isn't great but here are a couple of quick pictures for more size comparison:

The Ben Hogan is a real pleasure! F&F is perfect, it has a solid half stop, sharpness out of the tube is excellent, and the the protruding cap is perfect to keep fingers from moving up toward the blade. Slender and excellent in hand, it is a very nice knife. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this comes out in a Jack iteration.

Thanks for the pic's and your take on the BH. Mines in the mail, looking forward to this new model. Maybe I'll need more than one. :p
