Another poll. How many of you out there are like me?

I am totally on the 1 end of the scale.I pretty much use one knife to do any actual work and spend a great deal of time looking at and admiring the other knives.Of course I have a few heavyweights just it case.

I would place myself in the 7 out of 10 range. Lots of tough work with the occational pause to admire the blade in hand.

Better a tool too great for the task than too small, but I would rather peel an apple with a paring knife and cut down the tree with an axe if given the choice.

A fall somewhere in the miggle I guess. My old BM Panther really takes a beating at work sometimes but at home most of my other knives see pretty light duty. Then there are my big choppers, they get hammered pretty hard when I use em but that may only be once a month or so. Marcus

You mean some of you actually use your knives?!?!

I'm not a heavy user either. Mostly opening mail, the occasional box, loose threads, and those pesky Little Debbie snack wrappers. LOL My Delica98 would just about do me for life. But that wouldn't be any fun, would it?

If you consider a straight razor a "user knife" (and I do) than I'm about a 6. I shave everyday, and 90% of those days it's an old Dovo that does the job. Beyond that depending on what the "office" is calling on me to do I use a clip-folder at least twice a day.

I'm a light user too. I fall into the category of Bob Irons above. My knives are weapons first and tools second, so will be carried alot and used little. Hopefully my Polkowski Polecat, Emerson Commander or whatever, will only be used for opening boxes and envelopes, never having to draw blood.

I don't think of myself as a "heavy user" (I don't have any cool stories about doing pullups on a Mad Dog, or anything

) but I do tend to dull blades quickly because I'm CONSTANTLY cutting stuff just to be doing it. If I've got a knife and there's paper, cardboard, rope, etc. around, I just can't help it. Guess I'm about a 5. Boring, no?

Im also a lightweight user. In fact I hardly use my knives at all. But it's strange how whenever I forget my knife at home I feel naked for the rest of the day.

I'm somewhat of a heavy user. I use my knives on a constant basis throughout the day at work, cutting anything from cardboard to hose and fabric.

I guess I'm like most of you; when I forget a knife at home, I feel completely naked, even if I had no intention of using it.

I'm an irregular abuser, I have a machete that is developing some cracks, an ax that may take awhile to get the dings out of, etc., but even with light use I'd like my knives to stay sharp longer than they currently do. I guess the hardest use I've put a utility knife to is trimming foam insulation around the house foundation. The foam isn't very hard but concrete seems to make for a crummy cutting board.

Like most of the others I am a light user also. I usually only open letters and boxes. I have carried a knife almost constantly since I was about 10. I grew up in South Lousiana and a knife was not an option but a necessity. I have used my knife to open bags of cement, yard stuff, etc. Pick the splinters out of my hand or trimming a miter joint to fit when doing carpentry. Sometimes cutting 2 1/2 inch polypro rope when I worked on the water. So I guess we all can abuse one when we need to.

Fairly in the middle of things.
I use my Nemesis for everyday jobs like opening boxes, mail and the occasional errant twine binding.
(Yeah, I know, but once it got scratched, I HAD to use it...)
But the amount of punishment is minimal on the blade.
Every now and then I put it to hard use, but not every day.
I know that I own several "lifetime" knives, but as was pointed out earlier on, it would be no fun whatsoever to be practical.
I say buy as many as you can conscientiously afford.
Cut with what you have and enjoy!

I'm about a 4. I use the Spydy Rookie for opening boxes and mail at work, and carry the CQC7 primarily as a weapon. Have yet to cut anything with the Stiff KISS around my neck...folks get a little weird when you pull out a neck knife.....

I guess what I need is some sort of scale by which to measure.
If, on a scale of 1 to 10 Snickersnee is a 10 , I would fall somewhere between 2 and 3.

No way, Snick is like a 47 or so...

Well...I'm a light user but i have this paranoia of 'things might happen' feeling behind my head and will hate myself for bringing the wrong knife. So i carry a mid range piece, the Spydie full stainless police model. Some might dis-agree but i think the short false edge is fine enough for delicate and tight spaces cut and the OAL length of the blade is 'big' enough for 'situations'. The handle is relatively thin and is superb for concealing. I used to carry a delica but fall short in one encounter.... BTW, thanks Warchild! For the lovely knife and hello Compact.

Well, so far it looks like about half of you are in the same category as me: own both more knife and more knives than we actually use on a day to day basis. 'Course, that's what makes us Knife Knuts!

So, come on: there's still 3250 Forumites to be heard from.

Heavy carrier, light user.

I'll have to check in as a light user also, usually just envelopes, packages, whatever needs cut in the garden, etc. Like most others, I can usually find an excuse to do at least something with a knife several times a day, it's just not real heavy duty stuff. Lately, a Case mini-copperlock has been covering all of the above just fine. Usually, though, I like to carry and use a nice looking F Rooster or a less-than-mint old piece with some history and spirit to it.

We take our knives seriously, that's why we're here.

Who is Lynn Griffith and why does he keep promoting that stuff when it has nothing to do with the thread?
