Another reason eBay stinks

My wife just heard from eBay today. Seems someone compromised her account and listed a bunch of items. eBay somehow recognized the impropriety and immediately cancelled all the auctions.

Great. Something else to worry about.

How the hell did eBay know it wasn't her, unless it was their screw-up in the first place, somehow?

There is a Romanian group that is hi-jacking accounts on eBay and offering high priced items for 1/4 of their value. It's a scam. eBay is doing what they can to combat this, but with millions of items listed, they can only do so much.

Keep in mind that eBay & PayPal are in the PRK (California)and have to work within PRKs commie-pinko liberal crap laws. I'm not really sticking up for eBay, but you have to be careful of your wording and pictures. I listed a EOtech sight which was an mounted on an AR-15. Only part of the receiver was showing, but eBay pulled it and gave me an explanation. I listed it again without the receiver showing and everything was fine.

Instead of bitching about eBay and PayPal, just don't do business with them. I'm sure they will miss you.

Spyderhater, you should be careful...people have been prosecuted for less than what you just did. Don't think you're anonymous because your identity can be discovered.

He has posted that about five times. :thumbdn:

I bet he'll be gone from the forums in a few minutes.

I'm just saying -- a little subpoena now, an IP address later, next thing he knows -- knock knock guess who? Knuckleheads a lot smarter than he have had their lunch handed to them.

He hangs out over at Microholics. Still as Benchmadenut.

Probably because he hacked into some other accounts at the same time, and when they caught him on one they kept looking and caught him on the others too. They don't tell you those things at ebay, though; they leave you to guess.

Working in fraud prevention, I'll say that I can't always disclose all that I know, or how I came to know it, about fraud situations, at least not directly to the customer/aggrieved party. It's not that I don't want to inform the customer or play some cloak & dagger game, but security policies and procedures are secure, in part, because they are not openly discussed or disclosed to those outside the company. I realize that individual experiences with Ebay or other merchants when it comes to fraud may render that statment worthless to some. Still, it can be irresponsible on the part of the merchant to offer speculation about how a card was compromised or other such matters if they don't know the details for certain and/or aren't judicious about their disclosure on such matters.

That sounds almost more like a scam than a genuine eBay email. Would be VERY careful if it has links in it and asks her to use them to change her password.

Actually, that could indeed be the case. Be very careful when you get an email like that and always contact ebay immediately to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Once you receive any payments automatically direct them to your bank account. They tried to stiff me for $500, and my product. I kept both, the other guy got his money from his credit card back right away, and I don't know what happened to Paypal's money? Do you?

Make sure big deal's are taken care of quick. If they can they'll hold the money saying it's under reveiw. I'd only use a credit card that you know you are covered for disputes, or know exactly when and how to buy from certain people.

The deleted postings are a scam. They pretend to "hack" the account and drop off the earth with the item (if it was real) and your money. There is no way around these scams, and Ebay sure won't back you. They are just as corrupt as the scammers.

Don't really get the spam deal, not much of a computer user. But I didn't notice the dates were on there. Just got a bone to pick with ebay like most everyone else, and let it out on a two year old post nobody is reading. Thanks for the heads up.
