Another STRIDER disappointment!

I had a Stider SNG. Has great ergos, but it had the up and down blade play. As soon as you pushed the frame lock in a little more it would go away. But it was there none the less. Pretty dissapointed for a knife that cost's $400 new. I like my $50 cold steel lawman better. No blade play, and the lock is phenomenal. I also like the heavy duty buck csar with BOS heat treated ATS-34. These both have replaced any need for any more striders. I am sure when they work right they are awesome, but spending $400 on a knife that has lock rock isn't so inspiring.

Did you clean the mating surface while it was breaking in?

this is where the thread ended up after he posted it in the general section and esav(i believe) sent it here.

Isn't this the knife exchange feedback forum?

(You know, the area where you can leave good or bad feedback for other members based on transaction experiences?)

Good thread for General though.

Judging from your first comment, it looks like you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Jeez. You don't disassemble the knife. They actually ask that you don't. You use a qtip and alcohol to clean the blade tang. It's one of those brands I think a lot of people shouldn't buy honestly...

I guess it's the only brand that a lot of people shouldn't buy!

The SJ is kickarse!! I have 2 PT's, 2 SnG's and an SJ and they all work and perform flawlessly!! Go Strider! I think people just bash Strider a lot on this forum because BF does not have a good relationship with Strider.

No, people bash Strider because of who he is. There has been penty posted here, and else where, that this clown is a real piece of work, that thinks people should worship him, because he is the famous Mickey Berger. Knife maker, Special Forces Veteran, and world renowned liar....
The funny thing about his FanBoys is, even when they talk about having contact with him, and he is rude and disrespectful, or doesn't repond at all, they tend to laugh about it. Oh that's just Mickey they say....

Some people thrive on this kind of association to make them feel special, and wanted. Even to the point of being humiliated, and spending a lot of money on a product. People like "Strider", thrive on people like this. It just makes them feel even more important,
and controlling.

To the OP: Hey, you wanted one, and you took the risk to try it. Now you can base your dislike on your own personal observations, not those of others.
If I wanted one, I would buy a Buck version. Great people, very respectful of the customer, and they will bend over backwards to fix a problem if one should arise. They won't humiliate a person, and they will respond to questions and concerns, without lame excuses.

My sng does the same thing . I've been collecting liner & frame locks for years , factory & custom . I never had to break any of them in for proper lockup .No more Striders for me -

i hope it's not because of mick strider whether one likes a knife or doesn't. a product should stand on it's own. not being tied to celebrity endorsements....and yep liking something or disliking cause of a man or woman would be in the same vein as a celebrity endorsement, imho.

if i spent this kinda of money and got a lemon or even had to massage it to make it function properly i wouldn't be happy, who would be? i would expect strider of all people to be even more unhappy. who wants to put their name, real name or changed regardless, on a product that seems to have more than normal problems and costs allot of money and then have to put up more than should be needed to get it made right? seems like a bad business model to me, but what do i know?

then again maybe strider is the smartest guy in the business....after all ferrari and lamborghini have been putting out massively expensive and problematic consumer products for years and taken the approach of arrogant customer service.....and they have built a huge fan base and made lots 'o' money at it. so........

too bad cause the strider designs are interesting.

Well, I've never had any contact with Mick. Josh is great though.

I quit buying from a certain high end maker that people worship because of they way he has treated me and a few others so I guess I can understand where some are coming from. The breaking in thing, purple are delusional if they think a folder doesn't have to break in. Have you had one get smoother over time? That surely qualifies as breaking in...

Well, I have heard about Strider's reputation and all, but if a knife is good a knife is good. His reputation does put a bitter taste on the knife, but if it was good I could disregard it. But... the knife just didn't funtion how a $400 should have acted in my view. To each their own...

Its really easy to fix vertical play on striders. If you send it in all there going to do is put a bigger cap on the blade stop making it lockup earlier. Easy at home fix is to buy some
shrink tubing and place over pin and heat it up to shrink it to fit. For me all the other features a Strider folder offers its worth it to me to take a little time to accomplish this fix. But I also
understand some people want their folder "perfect" out of box. A Chris Reeve knife is what you want then. Isn't it great to have choices...

You're comparing a mass produced Chinese folder to a U.S. mid-tech knife?

There's no defense for MRB/Strider.

I'm not sure why the moderators would let this thread go on other than as a general b*&tch session about Strider.

The OP bought a knife from a dealer- doesn't say new or used. Used it once. Felt there was blade play. Doesn't report trying to tighten the pivot or anything. Won't send it in to the manufacturer. Sold it. I don't see how this "feedback" helps anyone. Isn't that what this section of the forum is for?

The lock up problem is fixed on the sj75 as well as some of the new sngs, not sure about the smfs yet though
