Another thread on the vagaries of buying a GEC knife

You have a different issue. You say you received the message at 1:04 Eastern; which is when it was sent. And there was no way they were closed or marked red at that point. So, you must have been looking at the wrong product. There is no way to tell at this point; but there is no chance they were marked closed at 1:04PM Eastern - they weren't even all closed at 2:04PM Eastern.

Mike, I don't want to belabor the point, because I'm not put out about it or anything. But I saw what I saw, and it wasn't the wrong product. I'm able to accept that something went wrong on my end. It's all good. Thanks for your replies and for all you do for the community.

No problems, just trying to narrow it down. You got the alert instantly and saw something nobody else saw - so I was just going thru scenarios in my head. From now I will keep those diagnostics in my head where they belong :)

Since it's almost TC barlow season, I thought maybe this thread could use a bump.

Speaking of TC barlows, are there some shipping soon?? Smiley face, winkey face.

Wow…Remington Scout early reserve went fast as usual on CK. Was signed in within 2 minutes after notice and reserve was closed. I did make ”standby”, but knife acquisition is not likely. Ah well, makes the hunt that much more fun…right?🐿️

I was on within about three minutes due to a computer glitch, and did not even make standby. Not that it probably matters.

Huh. I received an email from CK some time ago stating that the early reserve was discontinued and I never received a notice about the Remington at all :(

On 8/3 a notice was sent that it would continue for GEC. The telegram notifications are still active.

Same here. Not three minutes? It's like when you try to buy tickets to a good show and all the tickets are gone in an instant. Just amazing.

It was more fun when you could acquire a knife.

You obviously didn't sign up for their "super-secret, hard-core collector, want every knife super badly, early reserve notification, club."
But don't feel bad, neither did I.
I'm wondering if this "hardcore" group snatched up most of the Remingtons before us plebs could even get any of the remaining reserves. 😜

I believe the hardcore club is very small, if I understood some of the communication from Mike correctly.

That makes me worry that the Remington release will be small then.
I think this is a one off. Mike got them from Blue Ridge (thus the extra mark up $) probably not his usual allotment. All that being said I have no idea. Saw on other places that it was fairly large.

The email portion of the notifications is gone. I cancelled my subscription with Mailchimp, which sent our mass mailings (newsletters and early reserve notifications). I sent a newsletter maybe every three months and it really never was a newsletter. And I couldn't afford to keep it for the Early Reserve notifications; which really resulted in more aggravation than assistance since email is so much slower than Telegram. Every person subscribed to the email was sent an explanation on 7/21.

The Remington's are a one-off in that GEC made them from BRK with the understanding that they would make them available to GEC dealers if they wanted any. So, they are coming from BRK and that means that there is an extra layer of distribution. My cost is just nearly double the rosewood version.

But, having said that, there were as many available on the ERS as many recent GEC products. The demand is still high, thus the reaction time is still tight. My apologies for those that didn't get their name on one - other dealers will have them.

Thanks for the explanation Mike. It wasn't necessary. I was just musing out of curiosity. I not pursuing any GEC's at the time (although I did manage to get an 83). I'm not fast enough with the computer so unless I stumble on to one by accident...
I've been having fun with the knives out of Maniago, so that's good :)
