I just got this Ulster TL-29, and I've been searching and reading old threads, trying to get an idea of its age. The handles are wood, which leads me to believe it is pretty old, but the liners are all brass, rather than steel, which I've read means it would not have been issued during WW2. So just after the war, maybe?

If any knife historians have any insight, I sure would appreciate it. At any rate, in my reading, I realized we haven't had an active thread about these classics in quite a while, so........

Does anyone like /carry /collect /have some neato pictures of lineman/electrician knives to show? Let's see 'em

From the oldest, to the newest:

One of the first knives my Dad ever gave me!!! A Camillus made ChannelLock #11 branded Electrician.

Lives in one of my fire kits these days.

I bought a new (old stock) one last week...pix tomorrow maybe.

Here's a unused Case (half hawk) Electrician a buddy gave me a couple of years ago.

I was recently gifted a Camillus TL29 in fair shape. Anyone know what type of steel typically adorns these fine little workers?

A little while ago I scored a Case 12031L off the auction site. I paid $12 for it. It has a missing bail and the screwdriver blade was twisted. It was fairly crudded up too. So I gave it a good cleaning, some light sanding of the wood covers, and a reprofile of the screwdriver blade into a wharncliffe. There's a little blade loss on the main spear, but not too bad at all. Overall I consider it a good buy at $12.

No photos yet, but I was able to grab one for under $5 with a broken back spring on the secondary. A more recent model with the equivalent to 440a.

Any idea where I can locate a back spring to replace the broken one?

That is a Great looking case.

OP: I will see if I can locate the site where I found the info on my TL for you.

Gosh, I'd be 100% happy with that purchase. Cool mod too!

Thanks.

If you can't find a new backspring, you could take out that layer and convert it into a single blade knife. I've seen a few done that way, and they looked pretty nice.

Very nice Case, Bob. One of the nicest $12 users I've seen. :D

PM Pertinux (Sarah). She has a book on the U.S. Military TL-29 style knives. Tell her Modoc ED sent you.

Thanks for starting this thread, Rachel. :)
Bob, your modded Case is very cool!:cool:
Jake, you certainly have an impressive array of 'em!:thumbup:
I intentionally picked up a Camillus version (you have great taste, SAK Guy :p) at a gun and knife show, and, for a working knife, I think it's elegant as all get-out (as my Grandpa used to say)!

Unintentionally, I somehow have ended up with several more electrician knives!:o
Here's a Holub (thanks to davek14), with a hawkbill and a modded screwdriver, still in need of a good clean-up:

Here's a sawcut Boker USA (thanks to Markesharp):

And here's a Rough Rider version with one of my favorite shields:

If it is a Camillus, I can sure help you out with a spring. I might have some other as well. PM me if you are interested.

I love the TL-29, but I seem to mod almost everyone I get...
