Hey Ryan,
You still looking? I may have missed it, but didn't see where you're located. That might help. Have you checked Craigslist for your area? And eBay? I just look and look and look...and seem to eventually find one.
I have one of the NC 70lb farrier anvils. It's ok. Got via Craiglist in Maine when visiting my folks in NH. took it back to Hawaii with me as luggage. I also got one of the HF 110lb anvils for $85 or something. I believe it's cast steel rather than cast iron. It's a bit soft, but not too bad. You have to grind the horn a bit from the duckbill shape into a cone. Some folks stand a piece of RR rail up on end and use it that way. It's a small surface but fairly hard and can be set in a bucket of concrete or sand I guess.
As for being in a city, you can usually still find steel and stuff around. Keep your eyes open. You might be surprised what you run across. Also tell everyone and his brother you're looking for an anvil. I mean everyone wherever you go. Eventually you'll meet that somebody who knows somebody whose uncle had a horse whose friend shoed horses....you get my drift. It really can work out some times.
All the best, Phil
