Any airgunners here?

I have realized that I am an airgunner. Its never been something I considered a hobby, but more of a passtime. I've always had a few, always enjoyed punching paper and hunting vermin. Not something I have spent a bunch of money on, or really went out of my way to do.

I recently purchased a Crosman 1322 and have started modding it. I did a trigger job taking the horrid 5+ pound rough trigger down to about 20-22oz., I have built a new rear sight to replace the junky stock one which didn't have enough elevation adjustment. Bottomed out it was still 1.5" high.

I also have a stock late model Crosman MK I which is currently awaiting repairs and an old Marksman 17, a spring action .177 target pistol. The Marksman is a rediculously accurate gun, stacking pellets at 10 yards, and not picky about ammo either, just put some quality lead down the barrel and it will go where you point it! Its currently loaned to a friend, so I will post pics of it when it comes back.

What do you shoot and at what?

Yo, airgunner here :) Me and my brother both. You have some NICE pistols btw, some of the best.

I shoot a Crosman T4 and a chepo PowerLine 15XT. I've got a laser sight affixed to the underside of the T4 as well as a fake suppressor hanging off the barrel. For a 12 gram plinker, it takes out bark rats just fine.

Cool! I ,for some reason, think those replica guns are kinda cool. I don't own one other than my airsoft guns, but I guess the MK I is a Ruger replica when I think about it.

Here is my 1322 and its rear sight I made from scratch...

The gun in stock form (except for trigger job)...

How it shot with stock sights, 5 shots, 10 yards, offhand with cheap Crosman pointed pellets...

Here is the new rear sight I made, I also replaced the stock breech screw with a stainless pan head socket screw, 10-32 x .875 if you want to know. Bronze base and HSS sight blade. Elevation is adjustable by a set screw through the small hole in the sight blade and windage is adjustable like the stock one and accessable through the bigger hole in the sight blade. The slot is smaller than stock and gives a tighter, cleaner sight picture, reducing error.

Here is a 5 shot group, 10 yards, offhand with crosman pointed pellets, groups tightened up considerably!

Next mod is going to be to recrown in hopes of further increased accuracy!

I will get some pics of my MK I soon and ad them here.

I am a big fan of airguns also. It is a fun and inexpensive way to keep your shooting skills polished.I have been plinkin' with my GAMO 440 hunter and Fastriot's Marksman 17 . looking to get a nice pellet pistol of my own soon.
Vortex, that t4 looks like it is a blasst to shoot . Very cool with the lazer.

I wouldn't consider myself a "airgunner" but I do enjoy shooting mine whenever I have the chance. I used to have .177 Beretta PX4 blowback which was fun but more for plinking. I have a custom Crosman 1377 that I actually got here on the exchange a while back and love it. It's been converted to .22 and has an aluminum shroud with baffles. I also have a set of RB wood pistol grips and a black Crosman stock which is what I usually use with it. It's all topped off with a matching black forearm and a Leapers illuminated mil-dot scope. Great target shooter.

Lately I've been messing around with my Ruger Air Magnum. It will push almost 1200 FPS with lead pellets and more than that with lead-free pellets. I've tried out the gold-jacketed Gamo PBA pellets that are advertised to provide amazingly accuracy and velocity....but they're garbage. They simply create a lot of noise and I've never been able to sight an air rifle in with them. Even with lead, I'm having one heck of a time getting it perfectly sighted in, but it's loud and destructive and I feel very satisfied when I hit point of aim.

Three days ago, I set up an old BSA air rifle scope that won't hold zero so that i could shoot through the lenses. At about 15 yards and after many pellets, I finally drove two in a row into the sight side glass. Then, I promptly flipped it around and put two more pellets into the other side after many attempts. I fired a few rounds into the scope body too. Needless to say, the aluminum held up a lot better than the glass......

Other than that I mostly shoot those Gamo air gun targets, and skunks and opossum whenever they're causing problems on my property.

That is seriously awesome. Any idea what kind of velocities you get from a .22?

I've always loved these Crosmans. Dad brought one home when I was a wee pup (early model before they had a proper bolt. Also smooth bore.) We had some fun in the back yard with it. I still have it, but the seals are shot, so you have to drown it in oil before it'll start to hold air. Been thinking about fixing it for years, and a new rifled .22 barrel sounds pretty sweet. . .

The valves have been swapped out to compensate for the heavier pellets so It's shooting around 600 fps with 15 pumps. Not quite enough for small game hunting but if you got a longer barrel, you'd get a good increase in velocity. The actual barrel on mine is pretty short (it stops about 2.5-3 inches from the front of the shroud) since there are baffles in front of it. For yours, some new seals and a .22 barrel shouldn't be all that pricey so I say go for it! There are a bunch of custom part makers online that make 1377 parts so if you ever wanted to go further with the project, there are TONS of options.

I assume the valve/piston are flat top to be pushing 600fps. With proper shot placement, that's enough for small game like small rabbits (cotton tail) and 'possum. If using 14.3gr pellets that's about 11.4fpe! The flat top valve/piston is not needed for the .22 pellets but is nice if you're going to hunt. I have stock piston and valve and am pushing about 420fps which equals about 5.6fpe with 14.3gr pellets. I shoot rats and starlings with no issues.

For the 1377 swap to a 1322 all you need is a barrel and bolt. The bolt O-ring is a different diameter and is needed to seal properly. DP1110, that is a pretty slick build! Is the forestock also an RB? I really like that one. Good shooting too! You must have a match grade barrel, or at least have it crowned.

Correct, it's got a flat top piston/valve. I have used it for pest control (squirrels ruining the roof of our garage) in the past and it did just fine but I'm more of a target shooter in general. The barrel is a match grade barrel and the front of the shroud is crowned. Once the gun is zeroed in, it's very consistent. I've found JSB Diabolos (15.8gr) work great for target shooting and as for pest control, I like Predator Polymags. The forearm is not RB, I believe it was a Crosman offering but is now discontinued. I could be wrong on that though.

I'm slowly working on mods that don't require a large amount of money. I will eventually get the flat top piston/valve, but I think first I will port and polish the valve to increase airflow. I am going to recrown it next and likely do the long probe bolt for better pellet seating into the leads. I need to get all these little tweaks figured out before I start slinging match grade ammo down the pipe for competitions. No sense in wasting it if I can't get the most out of the gun.

I have an old Sheridan that some ding-bat drilled holes in the barrel and tried to put a silencer on. I got it in a multi sale.

My favorite to shoot is my Webley Eclipse. Heavy gun but it shoots excellently. It has taken down dozens of bushy tailed tree rats.

I also have a Crossman something or other that the same ding bat owned....

Arathol, not really an airgunner huh?! Nice collection you got there! That BSA is way cool, as well as the Crosman in maple! I would love to get an old rifle, maybe a Benji in .20 or something in .22. I'm not really a fan of .177, and here it is illegal to hunt with less than .20 caliber. Any recommendations for a good, moderatley powerful rifle that is common and decently priced? I'm comfortable with tearing down servicing myself, and refinishing.

fast14riot and other pistol shooters, check out Crosman's Destroyer pellets. I sue them for rat hunting (shooting 350-400 fps) and they do terrible things to small game...instant death with good pellet expansion. They have the best ballistics out of any other Crosman pellet I've shot.

I shoot fair bit over here in the UK.

Mostly a Theoben Rapid MK1 in .20 fitted with a regulator, an Air Arms TX200HC in .22 and an Air Arms TDR in .22.

Good fun, I just started to shoot pistols before the hand gun ban.

Better watch out over there in th UK, spitballs are gonna be outlawed next!

I didn't realize that air powered pistols were outlawed as well, bummer!

I prefer the good "whallop" that a standard .22 caliber pellet delivers! With correct shot placement I get 100% kill rates on rats. I have yet to wound one and have it take off only to stink up the garage a few days later after having died in the walls or something. The main reason I'm using crosman pointed is bcause I hunt rats in the trees of my yard. Leaves and such seem to affect in flight ballistics less on the pointed pellets. Besides, they are dirt cheap for shooting rats. I have some RWS pointed field pellets that perform a bit better that I use on squirrels.

I've got a little Beeman R7 that has hands down the best trigger I've ever used on a rifle-of any kind. Its very accurate, quiet and fun to shoot.
