Any airgunners here?

Fast14riot,I have a stock 1377,thought about buying upgrades for it,but I added up the cost. Really the one thing I dislike on the stock model is the crappy iron sights. Maybe when I get my rifles sorted out I'll take an "outside the box" look at the 1377. :)

The two biggest issues with the stock sights are sight picture and elevation adjustment. The slot is too big for me, which is fine for target aquisition, but not so great for fine sight alignment. The elevation on the 1322 and 1377 was bottomed out and still printing high. Before I designed and built the new sight for the 1322 i modified the original by elongating the screw slot and filing the top down.

the 1377 still has the stock sight and after 5 minutes with a needle file I went back to sighting it in. It is a bit fiddly and frustrating during adjustments, but once youre there its good to go.

Here is my sighting in target with the 1377 and CPHP pellets. It seems to like those well enough. I sight in at 7 meters, two hand, off-hand.

As you can see, "walking it in" is tough due to the gross sight adjustments. Once i got it there, it was good! Thats three holes in the center of the 1" bull, btw.

Good work there, I suspect what I might try is to mount more precise sights on the gun,and then maybe a rifle stock attachment. A little more stability ,but still short and handy. :)

Krav,HW80 is a classic, you have good taste in airguns. What's the Browning 800 like?

The browning is powerful, with very little recoil, I just haven't found the right pellet for her yet, the sights are goofy thou. Like useless. I love the hw 80k and the hw45. I haven't been able to shoot anything for the past year here, the H.O.A. Said I'm in violation of the rules. So I'm putting my house on the market in the next few months and my wife and I are looking at houses 10 acres and up, NO HOA ever again.

I miss shooting, I had the air arms and the hw 80 zeroed at 25 yards and was shooting out 65 yards with about 2 mil holdover.
Plus or minus depending on pellets air temp, wind and so on. I got some resettable targets, a lot of fun.

I have realized that I am an airgunner. Its never been something I considered a hobby, but more of a passtime. I've always had a few, always enjoyed punching paper and hunting vermin. Not something I have spent a bunch of money on, or really went out of my way to do.

I recently purchased a Crosman 1322 and have started modding it. I did a trigger job taking the horrid 5+ pound rough trigger down to about 20-22oz., I have built a new rear sight to replace the junky stock one which didn't have enough elevation adjustment. Bottomed out it was still 1.5" high.

I also have a stock late model Crosman MK I which is currently awaiting repairs and an old Marksman 17, a spring action .177 target pistol. The Marksman is a rediculously accurate gun, stacking pellets at 10 yards, and not picky about ammo either, just put some quality lead down the barrel and it will go where you point it! Its currently loaned to a friend, so I will post pics of it when it comes back.

What do you shoot and at what?

How did you manage to thread the barrel?

Yo, airgunner here :) Me and my brother both. You have some NICE pistols btw, some of the best.

I shoot a Crosman T4 and a chepo PowerLine 15XT. I've got a laser sight affixed to the underside of the T4 as well as a fake suppressor hanging off the barrel. For a 12 gram plinker, it takes out bark rats just fine.

I became involved (actually almost consumed) with airguns about a dozen years ago.
This is a photo of a Beeman R1 .22 Paul Watts custom in a JM stock hand checkered by Paul as well.
FTS pellet's at 800 fps and accurate enough to tree top squirrel's 50 yd's.

Very nice, I have to get my 22 weihrauch and my air arms mk3 worked on by him. Every time I check he has a lengthy wait.

I've been lucky enough to have had six or seven rifles done by Paul,
his work is absolutely top notch and well worth the wait....
He's a great guy to boot!
Check him out at springgunning.com

Did some pest control today, bagged 4 ground squirrels and two rabbits, anywhere from 10 yards to 55 yards using my Gamo Shadow 1250. I was shooting the terrible Gamo magnum (7.2gr pointed) because I didn't realize I was out of the CPHP pellets I normally shoot.

This rifle is box stock with the cheap plastic bodied scope, but it shoots very well and the scope holds zero and tracks well enough. One issue with it though, it is terribly sensitive to using a rest of any type, even with proper artillery hold. So, all kills were made standing off hand. You springer shooters, do you ever shoot with a rest? What have you found to work well?

Next is to build a spring compressor and tear into this thing, it's dieseling and have even ignited on hot days:eek: it's loud enough to scare you good when it does that! It will be getting a new GRT trigger when I tune it, for sure. I figure I'll shoot the scope until it goes bad, but seems to be holding up well so far.

One of today's kills, a CNS shot means DRT! (Dead critter pic warning)

I have a GAMO rifle, forgot the exact model but it shoots like 1200 fps. I've shot a squirrel grabbing a snack from the bird feeder with it :devilish: and a pesky rabbit. It dropped the squirrel just fine but the rabbit took another shot if I could do it over again I would've just shot it with my 10/22.

Are you dining on these critters or just killing them?

Does to me, unconsciously incompitently shooting animals for target practice is childish.

Who said anything about that?

Reread the post he quoted, specifically said for 'pest control', a perfectly legitimate reason for dispatching game (whether or not the meat is used).

These critters are in areas with poison bait as they are destructive to buildings and property, inedible in other words, if you must know. Just because I use a pellet gun does not mean I'm not an experienced and ethical hunter. Even the rabbits at longer distances were dead within seconds of being hit due to shot placement, and correct pellet type. When I say the brand of pellets are terrible I mean their quality control, I throw many more away than usual.

So, back to my question, what type of rest are you springer shooters using?

For sensitive springers, I've always either just shot offhand or rest the fore end of the stock loosely in my hand with the back of my hand making hard contact with whatever surface I'm shooting off of.

They make gel shooting pads that are supposed to help but I've only used one a couple of times and it didn't seem to work any better then my technique above.
