I have had Glocks since the mid-80s (Gen1 slick grips no s/n plate on the frame and now Gen3), 1911s since the 80s (still have the one in the pick above) and if I had to go to the SHTF or for almost any real world scenario in which I would need a handgun to preserve my life it would be a Browning HP... ;) then a Glock followed by a 1911 off in the distance. If it is style class and panache I am after...well it would still be the BHP but the 1911 would be next... ;)

I see someone is a Springfield fan! I haven't had much playtime with a browning hp and when I did it was many years ago so I don't got a opinion of them but man I'd love a 1st gen glock in mint condition. I got to run 400-700 rounds in a 1911 before I'll carry it I'm a bit obsessive about breaking them in but I do love them.

Glocks don't like cast or lead due to the rifling they use and can be finicky with +p ammo especially in 40cal. I love my glocks but they aren't a 1911! I'll always be torn between them.

Depends on the Glock, I have a customer/friend who uses lead (hard cast) though his 41, 34, 35, and his old 21. He's always had luck with Glocks and lead, had adjustables on everything and can (after load development) generally get 5" groups at 30 yards (shot old school pistol competitions back in the day).

The lead can't be super soft though

I am a bit surprised the Hi Power has not gained more of a following in the US. It is one of my favorite pistols to shoot. Gotta love those old Belgiums....

You are correct. I was given the info I posted by a glock armorer he did add that lead could be shot in them but due to the rifling they just had to be cleaned more often or atleast the barrel? Since I'm not sure about lead and glocks I didn't want to say it was okay is because I've never done it and didn't want anyone to try it on my word and have a catostrophic failure...I had 1 in my life and it scared the hell outta me! It was my fault using +p loads. But you are correct sir.

What happened there???? That pistol is on my list.....
Practice involving Golden Saber is when it happened. No one knows on this one. The frame could have either been fatigued and finally ate shit, or a premium line of ammo could have accidentally had a little too much in the cartridge. Either way, kabooooomm. Luckily he was wearing gloves, his hand stung for a little, but that was it. People always look at me like I'm weird because I shoot with gloves..... shit happens without warning like this (quite often actually), and that's my reason.

I never shoot lead bullets in Glocks. I was told when I got my first one not to as the riflings would case much higher chamber pressure with lead bullets. I do know a local range had a kaboom with a new Glock with less than a box of lead rounds through it. There was a question as to one of the rounds maybe being loaded hot. I don't think they ever got an answer from Glock on that.

....I hear you;)....thanks.
Some people criticize me for liking Ruger so much..... They are "overbuild" and I like them that way. They can go Kaboom too, but that little bit more always help.

I've got a Ruger P90 in SS (45 acp). I really enjoy the big lug. Goes boom every time .... No Kaboom....yet.

Glocks are fine with cast or unjacketed bullets provided the shooter cleans their barrel every few thousand rounds.. There is no such thing as .40+p either.

Okay this is the last glock thing I'm gonna talk about this is a 1911 thread and even I'm guilty of throwing it off but... I've already said my piece on lead, cast ammo so no response but as +p goes it does exist and yet technically doesn't. +p 40 is offered by buffalo bore and some others still I believe it is non SAMMI spec ammo so your risk! There is also home brews that I've tried all I noticed was NOTHING but problems. If you want a +p 40 go to a 10mm....but yes it does exist in a way.

I carry a Colt Combat Commander near about every day.
Nothing really special looking about it outwardly but, I have upgraded all of the internal parts & the Slide Stop, Thumb Safety, Grip Safety, Mainspring Housing and also added an Ed Brown barrel and a vintage milled short trigger.
It goes "bang" every time I pull the trigger and it runs like a Singer Sewing Machine & that is all I really care about.

I'm a big fan of 1911 style guns. I've got a kimber ultra covert 2 that I really like shooting when I get the chance. My wife kind of laid claim to that one though. I also have a sig p227, and plan on getting a glock soon. I just need more money for ammo. To bad I spend most of my extra cash on knives nows a days.

As for the money for ammo, the best is to reload :)

Anyone can overcharge a round. I am familiar with Buffalo Bore's product lines. Just because they call their .44mag +p+ doesn't mean it exists outside of their product line.

BB is one reputable manufacturer of powerful hunting loads. For their 340gr +p+ load those published velocities tell the story.
5.5 inch factory stock Red Hawk - 1401 fps
7.5 inch factory stock Red Hawk - 1478 fps

That's what I'd load in my 7.5" Ruger SBH Hunter going .454 casull territory, if needed.

Since we are talking 1911s here, this is what I have as woods gun where there is no grizzlies around :) Feels strong and accurate at 1300fps in my WC Hunter .460rowland,
