Lion Steel took the award..........
I thought Lion Steel was known for not making the best and having production problems....??? They are made in Italy right...?
They must have come out with something impressive to beat CRK out....!
Yeah I agree.... And the other question is, how do they determine this award?
The most interesting thing here is that that blade is not S35VN. When was the last time a steel other than CPM S35VN or Devin Thomas Damascus entered the building?
And the other question is, how do they determine this award?
Wow 3V! =)
nyefmaker, that's Nkonka, right?![]()
I asked Chris about a small 25 and he chuckled and sound like it was not going to happen.
Yeah I agree.... And the other question is, how do they determine this award?
It is voted for by other makers exhibiting to my knowledge.
I thought it was voted for by all of the exhibitors, and not just the makers. I'm not positive though.
Lion Steel makes knives for several companies that had a booth, and I assume that helped them win.
They make a good product, but no way are they made as consistent as a CRK, nor do they have the tolerances of a CRK.
I think we have to give Lionsteel some credit for how they are pushing the boundaries of manufacturing, and respect the decision of the Blade panel. This is the same process that chose CRK so many times after all. For all we know Chris voted Lionsteel himself. The Lionsteel one piece machined handles on their folders are an achievement for any manufacturer, and is the same concept that makes Scott Cook fans drool. I would argue the tolerances required to machine a decent one-piece handle are likely as precise as making a slab and post knife like most CRKs. I have not held a SR1, or SR2, but to be fair they look pretty amazing, and have much of the utilitarian (non-combat) style that appeals to me about a Sebenza. I don't know if anyone can comment on the fit and finish? If they have the F&F of close to CRK, then they should be proud of what they've done. I'm not jumping ship on CRK, but I gotta admit the blade show win sure has me curious about these blades, which is the whole point of the contest, I suppose.
For the record, I saw Chris picking the brain of the LionSteel guy at SHOT....
It will definitely be tough going forward...I don't think it's so much about insider's as the industry itself.......for it remain interesting to each person change has to occur and what we've seen the past couple of years is knives becoming more like pocket jewelry and models changing ever eight months.......companies like Kershaw/ZT and now Lion Steel are doing just that......CRK would need to bring out more break out products like the TLock...it seems the utility timeless design of the Sebenza and Umnumzaan that we can rely not to fail lack that pocket jewelry interest.
