Any cutters?

It would be heavily populated with butchers because it's a GD forum on a blade website maybe??
I figured people that use knives daily would naturally gravitate here.
Was my logic flawed??

Given how niche of a profession being a butcher is, and how varied the members of any given hobby or interest are likely to be, yes - your logic was flawed if you assumed there would be more than a very small number of people who are professional meat preparers. Think of how many overlapping circles that venn diagram requires:
- Professional meat preparation
- Knife hobbyist
- On this forum
- On this forum between 7 and 10 AM (Central Time)
- Wants to post in this thread

It was especially silly to expect much of a response on a Monday morning, when most of these people are probably wearing gloves and doing their job - not an optimal time for perusing forums on their phone, what with all the gore.

Additionally, I imagine that the majority of people who cut meat for a living aren’t particularly passionate about the knives they use. They probably outsource the sharpening and likely don’t even own the knives being used unless they are self-employed butchers.

Also, let’s be honest, most people think of self-harm when they hear someone being referred to as a “cutter” - so, you might be missing out on potential responses with a title like that, as people might think this thread would be a little dark.

Guess there's no actual people here that use knives on a daily basis for an actual useful purpose.

Just string and box cutting huh lol

That's cute.
I am pretty sure cutting string and boxes are useful purposes for knives. Processing wood too. And many other uses. Or do you consider cutting meat the only REAL use for a knife? We can't all be THAT manly I suppose...

OP strikes me as the sort of person who wouldn't even know what a Venn Diagram actually is, or what it visually explains.

Maybe let more than a couple hours or so pass before getting sarcastic and judgemental?

And no, I'm not a "cutter". I only opened this thread hoping it meant something other than what initially came to my mind.

Anyway...
I have questions about 6-8-10 inch blades...
I'm "issued" these blades...
Can't bring in my own..
So all the cutters modify them them on the job.
Most of my question involve modifying 6-8 and 10inch blades...steel strops...cut gloves...etc

Why can't you bring in your own knives?

Slice, more meat is cut these days then in the past, but the industry has changed drastically. It is a dying trade at the local level. I left the industry some years ago as that skill set was no longer in as high a demand nor did it command as high a wage.
There is a wealth of knowledge on these forums and with its members. Even for a professional. There a many current and former Chefs and Butchers, along with hunters and makers that are members of these forums.
But when your first post is to introduce yourself to these members and ask for something, then your second ever post is to offend those members. You will not find those members to be very welcoming.
Good luck to you.

Bro...
Butcher is a old term.
I work for a huge corporation.
Cutter is the new term.
I sharpen all my own knives on the job. On a generic stone.
Maybe once a month.
I use a generic steel every day tho and my knives are All razor sharp.
Can you compare?

This kid works at a grocery store, and is trying to make it sound more impressive.

For the record, many of us (like me) would put the sharpness of our knives up against yours anyday. Again, you are reaaaaallllyyy bad at this whole "posting on a forum" thing. You might want to step back, put the potato down, and consider how best to change the impression you give people. But hey, no skin off my nose, "tho".

If you've earned a wage with a blade day in and day out...
You understand there's an attitude that comes with it.
Idk..
I had to learn it...
So I'm kind taken aback that you guys don't "get it "
Maybe it's a Texas thing?

Maybe I am a kid, maybe I'm not.
