Any love for the Farmer?

Not easily. They are mega rare. I spent A LOT on that one I just got. Well worth it in my opinion due to collectible value.

Gotcha, thanks. I'll keep an eye out  I wouldn't be keen on dropping much dough for it for the GF's use, but I could see paying to add it to a minty collection

I had been on a Victorinox kick lately and bought all these non-Alox ones as my X-Mas gifts but then this thread got me wanting some more Alox. So I went searching for ones that I don't already have but want and got the Cadet and old-logo Woodsman.

So having seen the old-logo Alox I now really want an old-logo Farmer. So I went searching and found one on an auction site and I was determined to get it. But someone was much more determined than me, to the value of $411 !!!!!, more than I was willing to pay.

But I will get one, one day.

$411

Yes. After bidding and losing on a few old discontinued or rare color alox SAKs on ebay, I've come to accept that I'm just not in the market for those. Luckily, aside from collector's value, I love the silver alox SAKs and can buy all I want (within reason) without breaking my wallet. I just bought a silver alox Pruner and a silver alox Bantam. I love them. They were $41 for the pair ... new ... shipping included. So I'm determined to remain enthusiastic for the silver alox and try to fight off the madness and leave the high dollar colored alox SAKs for collectors with bigger wallets.

EDIT: Oh, and that's a beautiful photo of your new SAKs!!

My old-logo Farmer arrived today.

And I would not have it were it not for the OP "Knife Crazied" who found this one for me. Thanks a million Ash.

Just got me a Farmer in the mail courtesy of another Forum member. It rocks! It has replaced my trusty Huntsman for the time being. At least until I get my hands on a Farmer with scissors!

Red Farmer enroute to me due to this thread.

If is is half the knife my other Alox Vics are, I'll be thrilled with it.

Just asking because I love the Cadet. It's nearly the ultimate for a small folder. I've been considering an Alox Bantam, but I fear it may actually be TOO small .... as in forget you're carrying it or not notice when you lose it type small.
The Alox Bantam is so thin that it is uncomfortable in the hand when used for serious cutting. It's great for a gentleman's knife when you don't want any noticeable pocket bulge. I prefer the thicker Celidor version for everyday city and country use, and it's nice to have the tweezers and toothpick.

I love my silver Alox Farmer. It's the tool I pocket when in dress clothes mostly since it has such a classy look. The saw makes it a no-brainer for wilderness/survival. Probably the one knife/tool I'd carry if I could only have one.

I've got a couple of Alox Farmers, but I am looking for a blue one if anyone has an extra they want to sell.

I bought a red alox, a silver alox, and a blue alox a couple of years ago when they were on sale for $15.

Absolutely my favorite SAK. Keep one in my GHB, one in my car, and one goes into my pocket on day hikes.

How thick is the Farmer? I'm thinking of getting one. Pictures showing the thickness and layers would be helpful.
A comparison to a Buck 301 would be great. Thanks in advance!

I don't own a 301 but I believe the farmer is 3 layers.

It's 14mm thick, which for comparison is only .2mm (i.e. imperceptible) thicker than a Vic Spartan. The Farmer is three layers. The Spartan is two.

However, because it's a couple mm longer and made of alox and thicker blade stock, it's 86g (3oz) compared to 59.6g for the Spartan.

I hope that helps. 3oz and 14mm still makes it pretty pocketable, IMHO.

HikingMano - how do you like that Urban Wallet? Found it online, does he still make them? Not sure how long ago you got yours....any idea what the price was around? Thanks!

Love my farmer. I've got a blue, red, and two or three silvers. The blue is the one knife that's stayed in my EDC for years. I'll never take that one out, it's way too useful. The red's a safe queen backup, and the silvers are spread in various kits. One's in my GFs hiking PSK.

I carry mine in an Uncle Bill's Urban Wallet, fit's perfectly in one of those pockets. It's kinda like a pocket sheath; it keeps the farmer stationary and aligned so I can grab the fob easily.
