Any love watches like they love knives????

Just as my folder says something about me, I feel my watch does, too. For that reason, I spent too much and bought a stainless Rolex GMT with a black bezel (thank god for resale value). One keeps me safe when overseas and the other keeps track of home and local time. They happen to look nice together - both rugged and black - but the Commander, is of course, usually unseen.

I trust this will be moved to community or gadgets please?

My watch WOULD reflect something about me provided I possesd what I wanted.

And that is an Omega Seamaster Professional GMT or Diver, I haven't decided. All the quality, less hype, half the cost.

Dave you are correct that this might have been better placed in the gadget and gear or community forums, it DOES have knife content. Much like those much beloved threads like 'which knife would you use for...(decapitation, self defense, cutting bagels, shaving ice for a party)' or 'which knife goes with...(activity, food, clothing, Arctic expeditions, moonwalks, if you could be only on [sic] knife which would you be).'

And we know that these posts are accepted here.

Perhaps we should review what makes a post acceptable here (as I understand it):

1) A post that contains some knife content without an overriding, emphasized non-knife subject. Even some of these are acceptable. No logic to the decision as far as I can tell.

2) A post by Cliff. They all contain some knife content, thus qualify, plus they are so long as to preclude the effort of moving them.

3) Any post by Spark, especially if he is raving. Knife content definitely optional on this one. FRP!! (one of the cardinal rules of the ER doc; First Rule of Psychopaths: DON'T get them excited). Someone gave Sparky the keys to the candy store, and he is NOT giving them up.

4) Every post by Mike Turber. Knife content rarely present, even as a token gesture. Especially if he is ranting and raving (see FRP above). Frequent gratuitous references to (POS, IMHO) Corvettes, also contests, news, philosophical observations, complaints of financial insufficiency and marital woes ('My doctor said I had to lose 105 lbs., so I am divorcing my wife.').

I hope this clarifies the criteria for this forum (again, IMHO) (formerly whacko) Walt

PS; if you haven't figured this out by now, this post contains sarcasm. It is a joke. Mike and Spark need to post non-knife topics here, since it is the most read forum. OK?

Hi walt, dave:

Yes, tongue in cheek.

P.S. Great to hear from you Walt - still not posting on Benchmade forum :-) I try, but can't get banned!

dave, seamonster is a great watch

Okay. I carry a Crawford KFF in titanium, and I wear a Citizen Eco Drive chronograph in titanium. Never needs a battery; all I need is some light, and I'm ready to go baby!!

I think I have this thing for stuff made out of a material that has the word "tit" in it.

[ moving this thread]

That sounded like I was a member of the thread police. I'm not, really.

I like my old (93ish) Sub, but I wear my Chronosports more... They are great and accurate watches. I also have a few Luminox and like tritium vial watches, but they are not as accurate as my Chronosports.

Well, I use to have a Watch problem almost as bad as my knife habit, but since I found the Victornix Swiss Army Officers watch I'm a cured man, the stainless bezel and watch back and mineral crystal makes for a nice clear and easy to read watch, no nonsense style really appealed to me.

That combined with a stainless steel spring type bracelet for a watch band really works well, I doubt that I'll EVER need another watch band, or watch for that matter.

I wish I could say the same for knives! But the wood inlay small Sebenza is pretty darn close and just might be the one.....time will tell...(pun intended)

Just took a quick digital pic to show the watch band, it's very light and works well, comes in three sizes.

I think we can probably keep this thread from being moved as long as we start reporting on the Hrc of our watch cases.

akula,
I've got to admit that I'm a Rolex fan as well. There's definitely something to be said for a watch that can survive a deeper dive than the submarine which shares your name. I can also appreciate that, despite the fact I've been wearing mine essentially daily for 18 years, my watch is now worth over three times what I paid for it new.

yesiree bubski! i have a stainless rolex, a black ceramic rado and a gorgous very thin movado with a black pearl face

am wanting a hublot now too!

Hey, hey, hey! You've stumbled across the answer to our most terrible problem! How do you convince the sheeple that your knife is necessary, useful and therefor that we knife knuts aren't aberrant and criminal? Simple! Put a working watch face in the knife handle! You could wear it like a pocket watch, or like a neck knife or medallion or, my personal favourite, wrist carry! Fantastic - now you can combine your love of watches and knives! Maybe Rolex and Elishewitz could get together and call the new beast a Rolishewitz! Trips off the tongue beautifully, no?

Watches are one of the two or three customary menswear status symbols of very long standing. I have my share of fancies, but I hate the whole status thing and prefer to wear lesser known makes, preferably so obscure that only myself and a small number of lunatics would care about. Same goes for knives. Quality rather than flash. A Patek rather than a Rolex[although that isn't very obscure];a Fronefield damascus and meteorite rather than a Sebenza [although there's certainly nothing wrong with a Sebenza].
There ya go. Is that enough knife content?

The choice here is the SS/Platinum Yachtmaster Rolex. Seems to match very well with the titanium bolsters on the Emerson Custom CQC6 I carry.

Well, in keeping with the knife theme, I find that the watch that best goes with my Stellite Hawg Millenium is my Rolex SeaDweller. Since it is rated for 1220 meters or 4000 feet, I feel that I can pretty much dive anywere I want. But, If I have to go to 5000 ft depth my Breitling SuperOcean professional wii go instead. Of course for those short surface swims my Omega Seamaster professional will do, since it is only rated for 300 meters.

To dream the impossible dream!

I carry and 9100SBT or a Emerson Raven, and like MrG I were a Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph in titanium. If I am backpacking, or camping I wear a Luminox "Navy Seal" watch. I am working on buying a Rolex, or a Fortis, but it is taking a while to get the money!

Interesting post. I think that it DOES belong here personally.

I think that an appreciation of fine watches often accompanies an appreciation of fine knives, and guns (good cigars and good beer can probably be added to this list as well).

I have a TAG, and like it quite a bit, and probably will keep it for sometime.

But I like knives and guns better. The nice watch is a "nice to have", but not a "need to have". There IS a difference. (although my wife would probably say that they are all in the "nice to have" category--but that's ok she's been wrong before and I still forgive her).

Having bought both a Rolex non-date Sub, and a JLC RDM this year, my knife budget has been near zero.

I don't like the watch people as much as the knife people. They tend to be a little haughty, not near the comraderie we share

I do like watches though, especially automatics. I have a few including TAG, Hamilton, Seiko, etc. Th one I have been wearing for over a year is a Sinn 809 auto. That is a diving watch. Sinn is only available in Germany pretty much, they sell factory direct. They make Bell & Ross. Many of their watches are the same, only the B&R would cost about 3X as much. It really is a great watch.
