Thanks Skunk, #200 arrived today. I was out so got it too late to take pictures or to take her to the woods.
First impressions:
- It is very, very, very sharp.
- I have always loved the SAR series. I think the SAR series handle is brilliant and after the B11 the SAR series are my favorite Busses.
- When I looked at the pictures online I was concerned because it looked like the NM treatment was not applied to this model, but it is, so I am happy. Apart from the visual appeal, F&F improvement that it provides, I think it makes the knives much more usable - placing thumbs on the spine, holding the blade or pushing on the spine etc.
- The SARGE removed the one thing that I could not stand on the SAR series - the super aggressive jimping. I know many like that jimping for fire-steel but I don't use knives for that. I carry a striker attached to the firesteel. It is more important for me to get leverage on the knife when doing close carving and using that area to get that leverage with the thumb, palm etc.
- And the knife really does feel very light and fast in the hand. I have been sitting here rotating the 4, 6, 8 and SARGE 7 through my hand to formulate my thoughts. All I can muster so far is a facile "It feels great". I will need to use it to determine whether "feels great" means "performs great".
But I am encouraged that you say it chops as well, if not better than the SAR 8 (or something like that, I don't recall exactly). If that is the case then this will be a winning all-rounder. I cannot wait to get it out in the woods tomorrow to feel how this treatment affects its performance.
