Any plinkers?

I love to shoot. After a 20-year hiatus, i am once again getting back into the sport, thanks to my mother-in-law handing down a Ruger Mk II to us last year. I have used the momentum from that acquisition to dig out, clean, and put into service my great uncle's Winchester Model 62. These days, i try to get to the range as often as possible. I had been going every week, but things have been going on over the last month, and I've only been out once since the beginning of June. :(

Sadly, everywhere we camp, discharging anything is a no-no.

I currently have my sights on acquiring a 10/22, but that won't happen until next year sometime.

Jeez, more plinkers than I thought. I wish I could go to the range every week or anywhere else I could shoot, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.:grumpy:

Have a Ruger 10/22. Love that rifle. Also own a Remington 870.... but not really the "plinking" type;)

An 870 is high on my 'to get' list. I was introduced to shotgun sports last fall. Wow, is that stuff fun! The DNR-operated range in our neck of the woods has a simple/novice trap range where the launcher is basically next to the stand where you shoot. The targets are so close, even a n00b like me can break doubles with a pump. Fun, fun, fun!

:) i love to plink , i have a pair of 10/22's set up different from each other, and my son has a rossi 22 pump that is awesome. I also have a hi-standard 9 shot revolver(22cal) 6" barrell I pack with me while fishing....tough lil' pistol.I would love to get a henry survival rifle, man i like those, one day. oops i forgot about the Intratec tec-22 it is a plinker, very fast plinker !!!!:D :D

I love the 10/22, but I've been doing more and more with 1000+fps airguns. Heresy? well, I've done some ratting at home with them, they are light and relatively quiet, and it's easy to get out with them in semi populated areas. (farmers will let you shoot anything except their cats and dogs most places, some even pay)

Guess that's not plinking per se.

I also used to shoot black powder a lot, stopped a while back but might get into it again as my son gets older.....

It's the WGRS from Williams Gun Sight

I wanted to be able to mount the reddot without taking off the rear sight
so I did a little filing and got them both to fit

With my old eyes, peeps and fiber optic fronts are the way to go.

Almost all of my shooting is in organized competitions (USPSA, 3-Gun, NRA Action Pistol, IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc.), but there are few things more relaxing and fun than rolling a can or plastic bottle around with a .22.

I have a CZ 452 Scout that I dearly love. It has a Pentax 1.5-5X scope on it, and it's incredibly accurate. I don't think you can find a .22 more accurate than a CZ for under $1000 (mine was $199!).

My favorite thing to do is put a few clay birds on the berm at 50 or 100 yards. Then I shoot offhand, breaking the birds. Then I continue offhand shooting until the pieces are too small for me to hit easily offhand, then I'll switch to a shooting bag or shoot from prone (or both) and continue smashing the tiny pieces until I can't see them anymore.

I usually go through about 150-200 rounds each time I shoot my li'l CZ. That's not much for an autoloader like a 10/22, but it's a LOT of shooting in one afternoon or morning with the bolt gun.

That little game has really improved my rifle marksmanship for 3-gun as well. With a bolt action .22, I can practice trigger control and especially follow-through since I am only firing one shot at a time. I'm getting much better at calling my shots.

It's also helping me develop skills for when I move up to a centerfire precision/bolt action rifle.

So ... plinkin' with .22s is good AND good FOR you!

Is there someone who would go camping and not have a plinking session?

I've got an old Marlin 39 I picked up back in the late 60's that is too old a camping companion to be left behind. We picked up a CZ scout a year back and its a nice little camp gun as well. Either one is quiet with standard velocity shorts, and dos'nt attract much attention, which is a good thing these days.

Plinking:)

Backyard- Crossman 2100 :)

At the range

.22 and 7.62x39mm :)

.22 is hands down best plinker due to ammo price.

I love shooting,Mostly an old Remington 514 and a Remington 597.

But for the last few years I've been shooting air rifles more and more.

If you've never shot a high powerd air gun,its suprising at what there capable of to say the least!

Plinking is definitely one of lifes little pleasures. I got the grandson a 10-22 and myself, I still use my Rossi 22 pump. We graduated from plinking cans awhile back, and now it's all about shooting tight groups. The fun is in the tweaking to get the tightest pattern. The Ruger kicks my butt most of the time. There is no better way to spend time with a child or grandchild than a little competition on the range.

Plinking is not a possibility anywhere that I normally camp, but I am fortunate enough to live in a rural setting where it is possible to shoot in my back yard. Many of my neighbors do the same thing. It's funny how contagious it is; I'll hear one guy shooting in his back yard, and within a short time I'll hear other neighbors firing away too.

My plinkers. Forgive the absolutely horrible pics, my camera's batteries are dead and I had to use my MP3 player for these pics. I'll replace 'em with better ones this weekend. (Edit: Pics updated)

First we have the small and light group. IZH-61 air rifle and Marksman 2004 air pistol both .177, and an Eriksson 510

Next is the standard .22 plinker set. 10/22 and 22/45 with a game warden thrown in for good measure.

Then we have the range plinkers. Ruger P95 and a highly modified .223 Saiga cuddling a Scrapyard SS4.

Maybe they're having a small war and just didn't tell you :).
