Any sensible reason for BM to discontinue the 806D2

Well, I must say that I consider the axis AFCK to be the perfect "tacticle folder", and I truly hate to see em go. I own one and am struggling to find another on line at a reasonable price- just so that I can have a back up. With that said, I also feel that Benchmade, in general, seems to be moving away from "pure" tacticle knives. The styker may be gone next. (first post, by the way- and hello to all).

Yes, Benchmade probably canceled some models because they werent selling well.

Unfortunately for them, there is no guarantee that their new designs will sell any better.

I MIGHT have bought some of their old designs had I a little more time (I bought two Benchmades in the last 6 months). I WON'T buy their new designs.

I agree with Joe Dirt about the "goofy looking knives made out of Aluminum or only partial G10". Thats why I've gravitated towards Spyderco (4 knives in last 3 months). Benchmade is moving towards "style" and away from "functionality". Besides Spyderco knives cut way better.

I agree. I have been very partial to Benchmade but the new aluminum w/g10 inserts has me rethinking about them. I havn't bought any of the new styles and really don't plan on buying them. I might get another 710 in D2. Also they are not offering the bk coated blades that much either, only on serrated blades.

They wern't selling well?

Sounds abit strange to me.

It was not targeted at "common public" (the ones who by $5 knives and happy with them...). Neither are most of new knives intoduced by BM recently (Rukus, Skirmish, Presidio and Heckler-Koch line). So this is not "CRKT-like" movement to Wallmart.
And if the Bladefoums is a representative group for high-end knife fans, 806 would have a steady fanbase. Not a momentary peak as novelty, but constant and reliable.

Maybe it sounds too optimistic, but I hope BM will give 806 (or somehow improved 810) back. Because such designs should not dissapear. Think of the children:) .

I'm glad I bought 2 new ones, I just can't get away from the 806 no matter what I tryto put in rotation. All we can hope for is an updated version. (no metal handles please!!!)

I just spoke with someone from thebladeshop.com and he said it was a great seller and he doesn't know why they would of gotten ride of it. I just saw one go for $200.00 on e-bay and they seem to be steadily rising. -Lets all just hope they bring it back at some point.

I ordered my second from 1sks about three weeks ago for $149. I just checked again and they're now $160, "regular" price $170.

I can't believe that knife was not selling well. I know it must be, but damn thats like Spyderco discoing the great Military. Damn Bummer.:(

It's not all about what's is selling well, but what some think will continue to sell well, especially in larger companies like Benchmade and Spyderco.

If functionality was all anyone cared about, all knives would have a combo edge drop point blade with a gut hook, and kraton scales. Have you ever bought a tanto? What functionality does it possess besides stabbing through samurai armor or just plain stabbing into people? Style is important to everyone, no matter what they say.

Would you rather have a knife that never dulled, was perfect for your everyday chores, but looked exactly like an Oscar Meyer weiner with a blade sticking out of it - or a beautiful mother of pearl inlaid damascus sweet thing that cuts almost or as well?

Oh, don't slam the Americanized tanto.

I used one at work for a fair period of time and found the shape worked well for gasket removal, scrapping, opening cans, etc.

And, yes, a Cold Steel San Mai Shinobo (spelling probably wrong, there) can penetrate automotive steel ('84 Camaro hood).

But I'm off topic.

thanks man, but too late. just let 1sks rob me for 170.00. -f**k. $110.00 too.
but hey least i got one, right?

So is it just the Benchmade Afck D2 that has the tip up clip option .. what about the afck's in M2 steel?

I've had the 806SD2 for about 4 years now. It is my everyday carry knife and has seen its share of chores. I am in the same boat as most of you - want another one but can't find it anywhere. I, much like most of you, have been disappointed by BM's latest offerings. I just got their new 2006 catalog and it has very few items which appeal to me. I just don't get into the aluminum handles, etc. Their Rukus is appealing, but the price tag is a bit high.
