Any Wet Shavers, here?

I've used an old Gillette safety razor, that used to belong to my grandfather for a couple decades now. Beyond being a more enjoyable experience, shaving has sort of become a ritual of paying my respects. Nothing elaborate, the razor just makes me remember him, which often makes me recall memories of other departed family members. Honestly, as a bit of a drifter in spirit, its probably the strongest tie I have to my past.

I just hope that I can figure out something quite so meaningful to pass on to my children.

Hi kids,

One of my favorite razors...an old Gillette 'Executive' from 1958 that adjusts the bite. This one's plated in 22k gold I believe.

I normally will use vintage blades and these Schick NOS from 1971 are ones I prefer the most. Yep, many 40-50 year old blades are still great.

I just picked up my first DE, a Parker Variant. I used it yesterday for the first time and I really like it. Does anyone shave their head with a DE?

Previously wet shaved once a week using the ripoff Mach 3’s or 5’s (each lasted approx 4-5 shaves then thrown out. Recent switch to the Razorock Lupo .72 OC with HD handle, paired with the Gillette 7 o’clock yellows. 2 passes (with grain, then perpendicular) and super smooth. Finsh off with Nivea, so far no irritation no weepers. Purchased under $80 Italian barber.

RR's Lupo line is my current favorite DE platform.

The Lamba Ares out of Greece is a stunningly good DE razor! Running one with a Nacet blade right now.

What an informative thread. I just started about a year ago. I’ve figured out how to set my razor up so I don’t shave my scalp off, and I’ve upgraded soaps and cremes. Was starting to shop around for a new razor. This thread has given me a lot of ideas.

I don't head shave but, an older Schick L-Type Injector would be really easy to use. I got mine in the factory hang packaging for ~$5. which was less than half the cost of the injector blade pack off Amazon!

I just got 100 Shark blades for $11. 11 cents per blade, at least 3 shaves per blade. That beats the crap out of cartridge blades.

Astra at <$10/100 is a great option for most of my DE razors. Derby work well in some of them too at <$8/100.

Nacet and others in that class are stellar and run me ~$13/100 shipped out of Jordan or somewhere similar since they originate in Russia at the PPI (Petersberg) plant.

I've been DE shaving for decades and have already posted in this thread. My view on razor blades (and I have a ton of different brands) is, they all work pretty well and I can't recall noticing much of a difference between them. That said, I default to Feathers most of the time as I've got, literally, a thousand of them.

I just thought this thread needed a bump.

Nothing fancy here. It's just what's been working for me for years: Feather blades in a Merkur 23C. Taylor Sandalwood Cream, a Best Badger brush, and an old Sierra cup to work up lather in. Followed by a little cheap Clubman Bay Rum.Image.jpg
