Anybody EDC a beater

I do not carry a beater knife. That being said, I wouldnt cut that kind of stuff with one of my fine knives. I wouldnt like to spend an hour fixing up a highly damaged edge. Id just use scissors or a cheap razor blade for that kind of work. I do carry a small slip joint for my carving tasks as I find it excels in that work over my larger main carry edc.

If I'm EDC'ing a sexy lil BM or Spydie I'll shy away from using it to stir that can of poop covered rocks, but my Emerson's just can't resist getting in there and getting the job done. My 7a is on it's 2nd blade for just that reason. I love it when they've earned their scratches and wear.

That being said, if it's a simple cut or loaning it to a sheep, the SAK Rambler is ALWAYS in my front right pocket and can be resharpened in 2 minutes

Kershaw Chill... awesome beater. Slim, compact, sharp, and cheap. Pretty nice too. I clip it on my pocket at work, and keep my good knives in my pocket, safe from the big bad outside world.

My edc is a BM 530 and I would not hesitate to get it dirty or dull the edge on something abrasive like cardboard or sand paper. I would avoid really bad stuff like sap or epoxy or paint that doesnt wash out easily.

If I have a box cutter handy I'll usually use that instead though.

...using it to stir that can of poop covered rocks...

You sir are using the wrong cookbook :p

I have no problem in putting my Blackhawk Kalista trough hell. It my government issued knife so, they will replace it if a brake it.

I just really like seeing a knife that gets used, not abused but pushed to the limit with respect for what a knife is meant for and can sustain safely:thumbup:

Nice Knife Edwood7, nice knife:)

I don't carry a knife specifically for beating on but I do carry a small folder usually clipped inside my belt for loaning out. I don't like trusting other people with much more than a tiny $10 gerber and they all know I'm the guy carrying a knife. I won't hesitate to use my knives for any reasonable task at hand, but I also dont go around prying apart brick walls and breaking down doors with what is really just a pocket knife, no matter how "hard use" it is. :p

Imperial folder -made in Ireland- I am a carpenter and use it as a shim, prybar, cutting materials on concrete etc. Of course you don't try to break it but if you do it's no great loss. Lock-back - sharp, but not scary- sharpens up o.k.

I bought twelve of those Frost Wild Life series little lock backs. Thinking to give them away as needed. However, they are just about one level above crap or maybe equal to? So the wife & I use them when working in the yard to open bags of mulch, dirt, tie wraps, plastic plant pots, string that used to hold last years tomato plants. The pin for the blade stop normally breaks within the handle & the blade folds over backwards - get a new one...

My leatherman gets beat on worse than a red headed step child, using concrete as a cutting board, cutting sandy/muddy stuff, etc. Never broken one though.

Pretty neat topic! Makes me want a mora

I generally try to avoid anything that will damage a knife, especially if I have access to the proper tool. That said, I always neck carry an Izula for just those occasions where a tough, no nonsense chunk of steel is necessary. I trust ESEE's warranty and know the Izula can handle way more than any of my nicer folders.

I don't carry a dedicated beater knife, I use whatever knife I have handy and just deal with the consequences later. Admittedly most of my knives that I carry are in the sub-$50 range. Cutting wire, drywall, trimming a wooden window frame and my personal fav, cutting gunk out from a drain-buster.... ew - bleached it and relegated that knife to only non-food prep duty.

I tried to kill a CB JYD. It's still kicking...cutting burrs off galvanized conduit pipe, drywall, chopping, digging, you name it. It has one small visible chip but is otherwise razor sharp.

My Victorinox Pioneer is my beater. It's easy to clean, I just clean it with dish soap when it gets dirty, and the blade of a SAK is very easy to sharpen.

I do:thumbup: This absolutely does everything I ask of it, sandpaper, drywall, wire, fiberglass, grip tape, opens quickcrete bags etc... :)
