Anybody else not like clips?

they are a necessary evil, I don't like how most of them feel in hand, but they serve their purpose while you carry a knife. Also it keeps the knife separated from other useless junk in my pockets like wallet, phone and keys.

My thoughts as well.

First thing when I get a new knife is remove the clip.
I hate the feeling in my hand and just carry them in the pocket.

I also like small fixed blade's for on the belt.

I will not carry a folding knife without a clip. It's just too comfortable and convenient to have it. Makes the knife easier to get to, and I don't like the feeling of some knife turned sideways at the bottom of my pocket and baging around with my car keys.

And I don't see it as flashy or as some kind of fashion statement at all.:)

I like clips on my knives, but in my job, I put a tool belt on and off probably 15 times a day. It is very easy to snag the clip on my belt or pouch and pull the knife off and loose it. Now I take the clip off my Spyderco and carry it in my pocket.

I don't care for clips either and remove them from most of my folders.

The only folder I have kept the clip on is my FK PXL. It is large enough that it doesn't ride comfortably in the bottom of my pocket, so I clip it.

All my smaller folders just go in my pocket, clip removed. I generally don't carry a lot of other stuff in my pockets so "digging around" for my knife isn't an issue.

About the visibility: ever thought about IWB? I'm usually wearing untucked t-shirts that are long enough to just cover my belt - and the knives that are clipped to my waistband (usually up to 2 - one @ 1 'o clock, maybe another @ 8 'o clock).

I discovered that when i open my benchmades (707, 710, 943, 558) the clip almost always supports my grip while opening - and it also supports quite often when changing the grip or while playing w/ the knife. :)

The clip doesnt disturb me at any time - but it helps me a LOT - i enjoy them. :)
I understand your points for not liking clips, but my biggest peeve with just putting a knife down in my pocket, is that it's not secured.
Just an example: My knives are the last things i loose when being upside down (e.g. while doing push-ups while making a handstand) - usually my keys, wallet, cell phone or lighter fall out of my pockets (while being upside down or sometimes even while ''lying'' on a arm chair), but never my knives that are clipped inside the pocket or IWB...

Ditto that. The darn handle pops out of my hand w/o a clip on many knives.

The reason I bought my Leatherman Skeletool was for the simple fact that it had a pocket clip.

For the most time i only edc knives with a clip. I like that i dont have to rummage along my pocket to find it, and a clip helps to keep my pockets uncluttered.

No clips for me. For the people that dislike the feel of clips but also dislike the knife moving around in the pocket, how about slipping it into the coin keeper in your pocket (assuming you have one)?

I only carry a knife by the clip if it has an open back. If I put a knife in my pocket with an open back, keys or change get in there and dent/chip up my blade. If it has a closed back ( very few do now ) I take the clip off and put it in my pocket.

I've been thinking about trying to find some kind of epoxy to fill up the backs of my open-framed knives.

Edit:

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention a trick my buddy does: He colors the clip black. I suppose it helps that he only wears black jeans though.

I haven't seen many people's pictures of knives without clips on. I'm guessing I'm part of a minority.

You just might be. :p

Well, who despises these things like I do?

Not I. I think they are essential for my main EDC folding knife.

Tearing into my hand...

You need to build those calluses on those pillow hands. ;)

...making the opening of my pocket tight...

What, you wearing skinny jeans or '80's Jordache? ;)

I also don't like the way people give you looks seeing you have a knife clipped to you. I'm a more discreete person

I feel I'm discreet as well but I carry clipped. If it is legal, it is ok. I don't carry large EDC knives. Usually ~3" blades. Sometimes up to 4". But they are totally legal and I use them responsibly.

For me, I don't like to dig for a knife if I need to use it, especially if I need it quickly. I also usually have coins or keys in my right-front pocket which I'd have to jostle about to search for my folder or have to pick out pennies from the handle. But I respect your decision to carry unclipped. I carry my SAK's or slippies unclipped. Everyone has there own way of doing this. No one is right or wrong really. If it works for you then more power to ya. The most important thing is that you are carrying.

That's actually not a bad idea, and I have tried it out. My Buck 110 fits in there perfectly.

Agreed. I have found this to be true on a few of my knives. The clip can provide extra traction and control for the fingers in opening and closing.

Hey! Maybe your flashlight needs a clip. :D

That assumes that I'm carrying a small folder. My 'nook 3 wouldn't fit there and besides I have spent a lot of hours practicing to deploy from clipped position in RFP.

I agree with you, Minnesota. The problem is that I dislike the alternatives more. I don't like digging in my pocket, and I don't like wearing a sheath. I guess that leaves a clip. Such is life!

same here. i don't like clips digging into the hands either.

Gotta say though, this CRK clip on my sebenza is as comfortable as a clip can get, i think
