Anybody else not like clips?

I've never noticed anyone looking at me funny 'cause there's a clip on my pocket. A clip gives me a little extra to hang onto when I'm opening a knife. I do have SAKs and those would seem weird with clips, but most knives' clips are removable and I like at least having the option of a clip or removing it if it bothers me.

Easy to get to with a clip, doesn't clutter up my pocket.

Why is everyone always so worried about someone knowing they have a knife?

In the NYC borough of Manhattan, the DA has labeled illegal any locking folder, even if the blade is under the NYC 4-inch limit. The DA considers locking folders "gravity knives." The police can stop you if your knife clip is visible and inspect the knife. Knives must be completely concealed and be a slipjoint or one-piece.

I edc a fixed blade and the pocket clip is really nice. It keeps my pocket light and cool only problem is the 2-3" of handle pokeing out of my pocket, but I figure its better yhan on my belt. its a nice compromise

I actually like clips, it's a very convenient way to carry a pocket knife. But I also prefer to be discreet so I usually make sure my shirt covers any part pf the knife that's exposed.

At work I carry a slipjoint.

Clips are nice, sometimes a smaller folder get put in the pocket without a clip, sometimes with a clip, it all depends on what I'm doing. In and out of a vehicle repeatedly and I toss it in the pocket.

Zip up pockets and in it goes, a great option to have.

I hate clips. Take 'em off soon as I get the knife out of its package. They annoy my hand, and the knife sits better in the pocket without 'em. But to each his own...

I had the second post on here and have read some of the post that follow. Flying beneath the radar has nothing to do with being scared of carrying or afraid of people knowing I'm carrying. I live in a part of the world where knives and guns are still cool and part our way of life. Beneath the radar is just that at all levels NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW, quietly go on about your business and don't advertise your wares. Try to be the guy that blends in as opposed to the "that guy" that sticks out. I'm not trying to say to be average don't misunderstand, excel at everything you do, just don't stick out like a sore thumb in whatever environment you choose to do it in. I'm also not saying that carrying a knife by the clip is going to make one stick out like a sore thumb either but it is part of the overall equation of just trying to quietly and smoothly go on about your business while being beyond prepared for whatever happens without looking like a wanna be. Think of it like this, if we went to total open carry of sidearms nation wide tomorrow, I wouldn't carry my pistol on my hip, I would carry it but it would be concealed. Same thing with your house, if you won the powerball tonight would you build a mansion or a castle complete with mote and vats of hot oil up top, or some land in the country with a modest house. Porsche or 4 wd pickup, see what I'm saying? Always leave em guessing.

Pocket clips are the work of Satan!

To say that I do not like them is an understatement of Titanic proportions!

As many have said, clips provide easy access and protetct the knife from random stuff in the pocket. Keeping the knife away from random stuff in my pocket was the reason I started using a clip. Actually, to protect other stuff from the knife (Leatherman Wave) I always felt like it was crushing some this or that, or in my way when I wanted stuff from my pockets. But now that I use them, I love the easy access of them. Whenever I carry a folder without a clip, it is in a sheath/some sort of belt pouch so I can easially get at them, but a sheath is not always something I want to/can have on me. So the pocket clip is the easy alternative. Personally I preffer sheaths, but they can be bulky or frowned upon. I do, however, understand why people dislike clips. Speaking from a Balisong point of view, they destroy the aethestics of the knife, and they just feel odd in your hands, why ever would you want it. But for EDC, clips are usually a must have.

Depends whether the clip messes with ergonomics of the knife. I don't like tip down only clips has they tend to really mess with the grip....Vex and Ascender come to mind, and the clips came off and they feel much better in the hand.
Byrd Raven and Crow also feel much better to me with no clip. I'd have to say the majority of mine still have the clips on as most companies do it right, benchmade tip up's don't interfere, and all my Spyderco's still have them on....even the Millie and Para as they still feel good with the clips.

I take my clips off because most are so ugly, and I like all my knives to be uniform. It does take me longer to get the knife out without a clip but I am not carrying for self defense so not a big deal to me. I keep my knives in my jeans watch pocket whenever possible.

I like a good clip on a knife, but because of the material of the cargo pants I now wear at work, I won't clip them anymore. Because no matter how smooth the clip, it will wear the pocket material very quickly. A rough clip/handle will start to cause visible material wear by clipping it just once or twice. When I wore jeans it wasn't a problem, and I used to wear them clipped almost everywhere, even with the eventual pocket wear.

Now I carry down in pocket. I still keep the clips on, though, because when I drive, I like to clip a knife to my seatbelt for easy access. That's why now, before purchasing a knife, I pay special attention to the handle shape, esp. the butt of the handle; any sharp corners when the knife's closed; weight & thickness; and even the clip's shape for less in-pocket wear and comfort. I don't want something big and clunky weighing down my pocket(s). About the biggest/heaviest I'll carry down in-pocket anymore is my Military.

My decision came about entirely on my own and had nothing at all to do with worrying about people knowing I carried a knife or not. I simply want to preserve my pants. =)

Im a clip man myself. Love em. I carry a clipped knife in my pocket and a multi tool on my belt everyday. My biggest problem is carrying a multitool and cellphone on my belt. I hate carrying both.

I hate paper clips. They always seem to link together when you just want one. :grumpy: Wait.... I forgot this is not my Office Supply forum.

No clips on my traditional slipjoints, but I definitely like clips on my modern folders, the one handed quick grab provides the function I am looking for. I have always been a function over form guy. Not that I do not like great form too.

No I don't like clips either.

I carry in my pocket a Gerber Applegate combat folder that never had a clip, and also a Spyderco Tenacious that I took the clip off and carry in my pocket also.

First thing I did with the Spyderco was take the clip off.

I'm too scared I will lose the knife by snagging on the clip. Happens a lot.

Win.

Also, while I normally wear jeans, I do somethimes wear corduroy, or dress pants, and I find that the smooth finish on my clip (Wave) does no damage, it is also long enough, and with a little groove on the top, that even on the odd day is does snag, it just comes up a little bit, not out. Although it is a rather heavey knife, and that could have something to do with it

I only like the clips on FRN-handled Spyderco Delicas and Enduras as they have a smooth part under the clip so that they don't rip your pockets.

I never use the clips on my pocket of any G-10 handled knives as they are too grippy and tend to give me a wedgy when I pull them out.:D
