Anybody else-sebenza dead horse.

Sebenza,s price seem pretty resonable to me compared to the prices of some ordinary production knives. I think Cold Steel makes a folder that sells for over $150. I see knives with plastic handles selling everyday for $100. Compared to a Buck 110 they are expensive but compared to other high end folders they seem a great value (to me). And in the used market they can be downright cheap. Just got a used-minty small for $225 plus shipping on another forum. :)

The day the Sebenza stops selling is the day it will be overpriced. How come I never see posts about Strider's SNG's selling for too much money?I think DaveH is right some people just do'nt appreciate the simple design and great engineering of the Sebenza. When I got my 1st Sebenza back in 1991 or 1992 I just thought what Chris Revees did is genuis (I think it cost $225 back then).I rememmber Blackjack was doing adds selling them.I also think people need to carry and use a Sebenza for around a month to really appreciate them.Over a year ago I got a Firetac by Rick Hinderer who I think is a great knifemaker.I had to handle 3 or 4 of them till I found one that matched the smoothness and the fit of the Sebenza. Now I feel the Firetac is much better looking than a Sebenza but I would'nt need to go through several folders to find a "good" Sebenza.

If you like engineering you will come to the conclusion that very very few knives are better engineered or better executed.
I can easily name a bunch which can match and exceed it in regards to :

-cutting ability
-edge retention
-lock strength/security
-handle ergonomics/security
-ease of sharpening

and are only a fraction of the price, not to mention the ease of getting custom mods done to really ramp up the performance even higher as Thom has noted as of late.

Good point, but it's like trying to wiz into the wind, seems like, what with the somewhat fanatic following the Striders have. I've handled three of the various Striders and discussed this with a prominant sheath maker (you all probably know); both of us just don't get it. An $85 knife for $450, OK for some but not me.

So it goes with the Sebbies, I suppose. I haven't handled one, but sure love CR's fixed blade one-piece knives. If you like it then go nuts, if you don't, try something else! :)

Any thread on whether the Sebenza is great or not, is a dead horse. If I never see a Sebenza thread in the Blade Discussion Forum, positive or negative, I will be a happy guy. I say this as someone that owns and uses Sebenzas and have for around 10 years. I like mine a lot, but the "it's the best knife ever" threads, along with the "I don't get it/it sucks" threads are just out of control.

Amen!!! As usual, a thread like this will draw out the well-known zealots who have some ax to grind. IMHO, moderators are long overdue to jump on this constant nonsense. :grumpy:

For me, the Sebenza's handle is not very ergonomic, so I'm off the hook trying to decide if I want to buy one. :D

I love my sebenzas...as well as all of my other knives as well!

* crickets*

these threads only boost post counts!

Because there isn't the same level of promotion of the Strider folders, the Sebenza has been around longer and is better known and more commonly promoted as being the best of a type of knife. The reason for the threads can be seen in the first post of this thread, people not seeing the promoted superiority. Starting a fire and then complaining about it makes little sense.

I own two but one of them is far less than perfect.

My small is constructed absolutely perfectly and echos everything good I've ever read and heard about Sebenzas. Can't say enough about this little gem.

My second left me very unimpressed and a little angry at the amount of time and money that was invested in it. Bladeplay, a bushing that didn't do it's job and screws that would come loose from very minimal usage. Big bucks were shelled out for this one too as it was a limited edition wood in-lay for 2004 purchased direct from CRK.

After two trips to CRK I am still having problems with it. CRK put out great knives and have an even better rep for customer service but the work done on my knife has been less than exceptional (in fact, I would say the work done was poor at best).

This one is the exception rather than the rule but poorly fit Sebenzas obviously do exist out there even though in small quantities.

My experience not the majorities experience so I wouldn't use my example as the norm.

The Sebenza is an excellent knife. I have played with several and almost purchased one once. The main reason that I did not purchase a Sebenza is that I can get a knife that will perform just as well for considerably less. I don't think we would see a lot of difference in cutting ability if we compared a Spyderco Manix to a Sebenza. For me to shell out that much cash for a folder, I need to be convinced that the knife will out perform all my other knives. Also, for the price a Sebenza is going for I could purchase a truly hand made folder. If you like the Sebenza and don't mind the price tag, then by all means buy it.

Every day there a new members registering to this forum, so its not old news to them. You, on the other hand, have the option to skip over this thread if you don't like it.

Have you discussed this with Reeve directly?

-Cliff

Both times I dealt with Anne.

I'm not sending it back again though...at least not for a while.

Seeing as its such an expensive knife I always have it fed ex'd to Boise and this is starting to get too costly for me. Along with that I run the risk of it been confiscated when it gets shipped back to Canada.

Sebenzas have run their course for me for now.

Those would be gay Sebbies. ;)

I agree with an earlier comment. Good engineering = Sebenza. Cool factor = what grabs you.

I had a large Classic Sebenza. From my perspective, one of my least favorate knives - I sold it.

I just bought a Benchmade 750 - love it. It my replace my 710 M2 as my EDC, or at least rotate with it.

There is always a risk crossing the border, but there is nothing about the Sebenza which would make it prone to such complications unless the pivot is really loose and it flicks readily. What gets me is the hassle you have to go through if you get hit for duty more than once. As for cost, assuming they were defects you should not be paying for shipping anyway, and certainly not more than once.

I agree.

I'm dead tired of the hassle so I've decided to keep it as is for now and when I have the energy I'll re-consider what to do with it.

Wel you are more forgiving than I would be, anyone can put out a bad knife, but two problematic repairs are a bit much.

Using the search function could have avoided the useless use of band width.
