With the price of Mach 3 and other multi blade razors I went back to a Double Edge. A Merkur 34c to be exact with a boars brush and shaving cream/soap. Shaving seems more relaxing and nostalgic. I always felt I should have been born in the 20s or 30s. Now if I could only get some Infi razor blades. :D

No. But I use Straight razor (even more economical than DE). Arsenal of soaps and creams and several brushes

Ridnovir. With all that accoutrement I have little doubt you'll get a far better shave than I do when I actually shave and have far more fun doing it, but I'm not sure about the economics. :)

what economics..:D

wet shaving is like knife collecting you can't justify it (at least in economic terms) but you sure enjoy the ride

I use a straight razor on my face and a double edge on my head. I am 100% confident that I spend less money on shaving now vs using the disposable mach 3s in spite of the initial investment for wet shaving. Plus I less skin irritation and a better shave. It's a no brainer.

And it's more enjoyable. Turns a chore into a hobby.

Love my DE. Merkur Futur Adjustable Safety razor. Can't recommend it enough. Matter of fact used it this morning before I had a meeting.

^ this. My initial investment was about $170 dollars. After that, it's all just the blades. Soap can last up to a year and then badger brushes become the addiction.

I bought feather blades on ebay for about $70 for 200. I go through a blade about once every week and a half to two weeks. I buy Honeybee Sue soaps on ebay as well, they're about $20 or so for 6 pucks. I go through a puck about every 6 months. It's far cheaper than going through a $3 fusion or mach 3 blade every couple weeks and the shave is much better. I use a Merkur 38c and Crabtree and Evelyn Edwin Jagger badger brush.

No but I just shaved with my HIS steak knife sharpened by Beef:eek:

My face feels a little raw:D

I bought a whole setup from Art of Shaving in Boston and haven't looked back since. My safety razor gives me a closer shave than any of my "modern" multi-bladed razors could. Only thing I'd change is to do a lil more research, pricey at art of shaving.

Actually its funny how this subject is brought up. I was considering buying a straight razor about a month ago due to the cost of new Gillette cartridges for my proglide. Then after doing some research I came across double edge safety razors, I began to find the classic style mixed with a all metal construction gave me the feeling of a classic old world style with better craftsmanship. I settled on a merkur futur and I love it. I am still learning on proper technique but I will never go back to cartridge razors ever again.

I tried a double edge razor (actually several, including Merkur) for a few months. Couldn't stop cutting myself, once deeply. Never could figure out how to do it safely -- and I'm careful and pretty coordinated. Love the idea but hated the blood!

I first learned by watching different methods on YouTube. I was terrified to use it. After a couple of hours of watching I tried shaving and got a few nicks, but nothing major. Now it's rare for me to get any cuts at all. Let the blade to the work. My Mekur is heavy so it easier to let that happen. My wife doesn't buy her "4 blade with aloe" anymore and uses my razor exclusively:eek:

My usual double is an old Gillette Fatboy. I've got a collection of straights too, but that's more for days I'm not working, and I can take the time to enjoy a shave. I tell people who are incredulous that I'd shave with a cut throat razor, that it is marvellous for improving your concentration.

Been using a double edge for years. It's what I learned to shave with. Gets me the smoothest shave and I can shape up my beard with it better than any disposal razor. I have to admit I do use a disposal for my head. I'm attempting to transition to a straight edge but haven't worked up the courage yet!

Feather blades are insanely sharp. They should be used like a feather gliding along your face. Use no pressure. Some blades work better than others for people, you have to try a variety. For me its nothing but Feather.
