I know there is much talk about bear grylls' (sp?) show, and I don't liks his show much at all, however I just got survivorman with les stroud from netflix and really like it so far. He uses alot of good methods for shelter and fire starting.
just wondering if anybody else watches and if anybody has any comments about how he does things

I like Les a lot better.

Les Stroud actually knows what he is doing. Survivorman is a great show, and I can actually learn something while I watch too!

I think I speak for everybody here when I say... Does a cat have an ass?

Les has a really good show. I also like some of the specials he does now and again like his "Surviving Natural Desasters" specials.

Les is cool. He tends to sleep a lot, get the creeps and can't fish to save his life but my son and I haven't missed an episode.

OT...check out Alone in the Wilderness with Dick Proenneke. He's tops in my book.

I like Survivorman a lot. Watch everyone of his shows in season one and two, looking forward to season three. Learned some stuff from the show, and also learn to look at things differently that I had before. My kid loves it... :)

Yes, I watch it too, find it pretty interesting. He seems to actually be a pretty average guy, no ex-special forces super-hero.

They had a really good idea for his show, which I'm sure you've all seen, that takes you behind the scenes of putting an episode together. I found that fascinating.

My favorite part was his "outtakes" section, where he says basically the number one problem they have on the show is kindly folks trying to rescue him, thinking he's really in trouble. He mentioned, IIRC, that he was doing a part up in a desolate part of Canada, and talking about how totally alone you feel, and how you have to deal with the isolation, when suddenly two guys in a canoe paddled up asking him if he was all right.

Hysterical. I guess one of the secrets to being rescued is to try to do a show about how no one will come to your aid! :)

Les is awesome - the fact that he's hauling 50 to sixty pounds of camera gear is incredible. He's doing at least twice the work necessary setting up camera shots and hauling gear that doesn't help him survive. He's only out there for seven days - but given all the extra work he does with almost no food, he could easily be out there for a couple of weeks or more without a problem. He's stronger and more fit than he looks.

I like Man Vs Wild more as it teaches you a lot about Survival and is very entertaining and keeps you awake. :D:cool:

Les is the man, probably my favorite show!

Same here. I wish there were more new episodes.

I've caught myself watching the same one over and over. :)

I like the one when he is kayaking in Alaska and eats that leftover fish on the rocks. He's the man.

Some times he is a little out of order, which is more for the show then a reflection of his knowledge. Such as the kalihri epp.

He does bring a real element of survival primarily weather to stay put of try and get out, not just to go storming through where every he may be just to show off his stuff (bear).

Man VS Wild has been shown to be faked.

I also like Les and never watch Bear's show after seeing a few clips. I prefer the forest ones best as I could see me in that situation as opposed to lost in the jungle. My one complaint is he is always saying how bad he feels about killing some animal, snake, etc to eat but "since it is a survival situation all animals are fair game". I thought all animals are fair game at least during the hunting season.:D

I usually do, though I haven't watched it in a few weeks, got tired of reruns. And I can never manage to catch the new episodes.

We used to call him Starver Man because on a lot of shows he actually finds almost nothing to eat. Actually, this acurately reflects what has happened to me in similar situations. Many of our "survival" weekends have turned into fasting and meditation retreats.
One of the real tortures is that as modern people we are used to unlimited food. In the wild you often get one mouthful or just part of a mouthful of whatever you can find. Most folks that say they would never eat a bug or worms have never spent several days in the wild sworn to eat only what they can find.

:p

My blockbuster had season one on sale for 9.00 a while back. My boys bought it for me for fathers day, Ive watched it, and most of his other shows several times. Hes pretty cool, I like his sense of humor.
