anybody watch the show survivorman?

I have to admit, I do love Man v Wild. I think that it is a dangerous show to take cues from, but it is one of the most entertaining shows on tv. I know Bear has been busted out on situations being created for him, not really surviving, bla bla bla, but man is that a funny show. I watch every knew episode waiting to see what he's going to eat next or do to himself to simulate a survival situation. It's great.

Les' show is far better though. I love his dry Canadian sense of humor and the fact that he shows himself making mistakes. His show still is by know means a perfect guide to survivng anything, but it does give people ideas and inspire them to learn on their own from other survival experts.

To me, Les Stroud is a dry Canadian boy showing us how he handles stuff out in the wild and gives good tips that spawn a desire to learn. Bear is a clown who does Jackass style stunts and acts like it's survival more to show what all the human body can handle as far as digestion and extreme stupidity go. Both are great shows.

In addition to the struggle of lugging around all that camera gear, I give Les huge props for doing this ALONE. The psychological effect of being alone out there must be huge. That's probably why he gets spooked from time to time.

Bear has his film crew around all the time, I believe.

I also admire the way he shows his failed attempts at doing things. That's entertaining, and alot more reassuring that he's human just like the rest of us.

I feel the same, I just really like it, one of those shows that makes me think it is almost worth getting cavle again...almost.
I really liked his Caribou(sp?) leg bone knife, that was sweet

+1. I think it's really an entertaining show! :)

I was a bit confused when this whole "not-really-surviving" ruckus started... I honestly thought it was obvious to begin with. I was just watching episode 2 of the first season (French Alps)... watched Bear jump through the ice of a frozen lake. He clearly states, that he does so in order to show how to get out from there. Then he shows, how you can try to survive that situation. Pretty good advice, actually, even though the situation was created for him. Even on camera he does some preparations, but I think its painfully obvious that he (of course) has a set of dry clothes or a warmed up car waiting for him. I mean, does someone really think that if he hadn't got a fire going, the camera crew would have just stood there and watch Bear froze to death? "Yes, you can see the final stage of hypotermia clearly, the shivers are now coming in waves...". Might be informative, but not very ethical.

Reading some of the comments on various forums made me think, that maybe a clear statement would have been in order. Bear has a sort of "jackass" approach to survival in his show, and just like kids watching jackass, the viewers of this show should enjoy it as it is: a TV show. But, even nowadays there seems to be folk out there that need to read that old phrase "Don't try this at home" over and over again.

But doesn't he have a "base camp" nearby? I doubt any production or insurance company would let him do that show without a safety net of some kind.

Great show though.

I am currently working my way through Season One of Survivorman. I also just watched "Off the Grid". Great program. I would have to say Les is my favorite.
